The old buildings served us well. The new structures will serve us better. With God's grace and blessings, Lutheran High Schools, East and West, will continue to grow--training young peo- ple for Christian Living. rr WMXW Search the Scriptures, for in them ye think ye have eternal life, and they are they which testify of Me. Our Theme . . . We, the Aureole Staff, have chosen for our theme this year the thought of searching We feel that a true Christian's life is one of constant searching .... always looking ahead, striving for more knowledge ..... for the furtherance of Christ's kingdom on earth ..... for the betterment of ourselves and our fellowman. With our eyes ever on the cross of Christ, ever searching for truth and wisdom. And so we begin our Search . . , 3 Introduction Dedication Faculty . . Seniors . . Table of Contents Underclassmen . . Activities Sports . . . School 'Life 4 Dedication For his wonderful Christian example, his fine sense of humor, and the guiding and helping hand he has always given us, his students, we dedi- cate this our 1957 Aureole to Mr. Fred Kirchoff. In this way we hope to convey partially our thanks for everything he has done to enrich our lives at Lutheran High both morally and spiritually. His understanding, pat- ience and genuine interest in our activities has helped us all immeasur- ably. May God richly bless him through all his life and grant him thi peace and satisfaction that comes from a life of unselfish service. 'X X -1 X Searching X' For Truth If God held in his right hand all truth and in his left nothing but his ever ardent desire for. truth even with the condition that I should err forever and bade me choose I would bow down to his left, saying, 'O Father, give me that: pure truth can be but for thee alone Kapteyn Faculty 'fT7m: 'f'-'Y--- 'vs -P' Conrad j. Kirchoff Sponsor Donna Borgert Mary Peterson Secretary Treas urer All through his life, man is constantly searching--for fun, happiness, love, success, truth, wisdom, knowledge, pleasure, and peace. We, the members of the 1957 graduating class are no exception. We entered Lutheran High as freshmen with the highest hopes and dreams. Our first year was'started out with a bang by the freshie mixer at Nazareth Lutheran Church. Soon after, we found ourselves busily at work with the Fall Fun Festival, which was held at Mt. Calvary Church. Our assembly, Tell Me A Story , is one which will always be remembered. As Sophomores, we were right in the middle of things. Games, parties, and other activities brought us a wealth of pleasure. Among our projects was our Arthur Godfrey assembly and our outing at Middle Rouge Park. Our junior year was upon us before we knew it. The assembly, Babes In, Toyland , was the best ever and our thrilling mystery There's Always A Murder?', was enjoyed by all. Now, as seniors, after a successful plan, You Can't Kiss Caroline , we are looking forward to Com- mencement, Baccalaureate, Class Day, and most of all, the banquet. Yes, we searched and we have found, here at Lutheran High, fun, happiness, love, success, truth, wisdom, knowledge, pleasure, and peace, but soon we must go out into the woild to continue our search with the memories of our high school days and with the wisdom we have gained here to guide us. 16 Elizabeth Anderson Liz . . . third finger, left hand . . . During the past year, the band has come a long way. The band, with its fifty-one members, is the largest it has ever been, taxing the facilities for music at 5040 Joy Road. The band made several appearances at basketball at and football games, adding much to these athletic events. On February 23 and March 2, the group gave two very successful spring concerts at Bethany and Jehovah Lutheran Churches, respectively. This year, the Fort Wayne Band was host to the Detroit and Cleveland Lutheran High School Bands. The 1957 Tri-City Band Festival was held on March 28- 30. The Band is supported by the Boosters Club which buys all their new instruments and uniforms. S Concert Band in Action B Bond The B-Band is a group of students who are learning to play the instruments of their Choice. They were asked to sing on a special Christmas television show, featuring four Detroit area choirs. This is an indication of the popularity of the group. They successfully gave their annual Christmas Concerts at Bethany and Covenant Churches. On March 31, a Spring Concert was given at St. Peter's Church, East Detroit. For this concert, the choir performed songs from all of the church seasons. Again this year, both of the choirs took part in the Metro-Suburban Festival. This is an annual event in which the choirs of the schools in the Metro-Suburban League all participate. As the final annual event of the season, the' Sen- ior Choir conducted their tour. Approximately 4,000 spectators were on hand to witness the exciting battle between Detroit Lutheran High and Cleve- land Lutheran High. However, though the game was good, half time held an equal attraction, for during that time the crowning ceremony took place. The Band, Majorettes, and Hi-Steppers led the royal procession followed by the float carrying the charming and attractive Queen and her Court. A member of the Detroit City Council, Mary Beck, was on hand to crown Miss Long. Last year's queen Nan Gilson, was there to relinquish her title to Leann. After the crowning ceremony Queen Leann and her six pretty attendants took their places on the platform erected for them and watched the remaining half of the game. Queen Leann Long. The East Side ground breaking took place on September 16, l956 and the West Side ceremony followed one week later on September 23. The act of ground breaking was the start of the building program for the two new Lutheran High Schools in Detroit. The students, of course, are happy to be going into brand new schools, but are sad to be separated from their friends living on the other side of town. Brennan In Conclusion. ln all probability this 1957 Aureole will be the last book to originate in the Publications Room at 5040 joy Road. Though our sentiments are many and mixed when we think of the hours spent in this small room we are sure the new Lutheran High Schools will offer better facilities for next year's staffs. We cannot leave without expressing our thanks to all who helped create this book. These in- clud'e the students who spent many, often long hours, planning layouts, writing copy, securing ad- vertisements, selling-subscriptions and taking picturesgthe entire faculty whose co-operation was essential, the H. A. Powell Studios who helped us greatly, by supplying numerous prints and ex- pert photography, Mr. Al Weatherly and son, our printers, who gave us friendly and expert advice, information and directionsg and finally Mr. Marlyn Staschke, our editorial advisor, and Mr. Kurt Biedermann, our business advisor, who encouraged and spurred our efforts on, many times giving us the added boost which enabled us to complete our book. lt is our fervent prayer that the wonderful spirit and co-operation of the students, faculty and all others concerned will follow the students of Lutheran High to their new locations. May your satisfaction be as great as ours has been. - - Patricia Norris, Editor-in-Chief -..l-QT...-.. ggi-srnmn mme...-, ll1.ANNl.lAI,NVi
