' ., J ., f x i Coach Dennis Tuomi At the close of the basketball season, another trophy adorned the D.L.H.S, trophy case. This one in the form of a Michigan High School Athletic Association District championship trophy. Although the squad had but a meager 3-5 league record and a TO-5 record for the sea- son, they improved steadily. Led by Tom Orton's twenty- one points, the Leopards upset the highly rated Madison team in the second round of the district tournament. The following night the Leopards won over the favored Centerline team to win the first basketball trophy. This win qualified Lutheran for the regional tournament where they once again drew a first round bye and in the second round defeated the powerful Servite. In the regional finals Lutheran met its greatest challenge. lt came in the form of St. Andrews, parochial and city champions, rated second only to state champions, River Rouge. The Lutheran Leopards, despite their lack of height, displayed great poise and succumbed to the victors in the last two minutes. This team has set a precedent that will place Lutheran as a team to be watched for years to come.
