Our Eyes are to the Future! The history of our high school movement in Detroit is a glorious one, studded with the achievements of people, groups and events that shine and glisten, that inspire and encourage us, that urge us forward and onward. There is an old saying, - Any institution will fare As the pioneers dare. Those were brave people back in 1943 and 1944. It took real courage to do and dare as they did. Their example, their labor, their sacrifices urge us to keep our eyes to the future as we resolve and venture to build two new Lutheran High Schools in Detroit. William F. Fenske Executive Director At this time we are assured that the present Development Fund Campaign is a definite real- ity. We pray daily that the two new schools may become a reality during the coming year. If God will continue to bless our efforts, and if our people will stand by our cause, we hope to break grounds this year. And, why shouldn't we? Detroit, the strongest Lutheran center in America, with more than 100 churches of our conference, with more than 24,000 Lutheran fam- ilies, with a membership of over 60,000, and an annual total church budget of n e a rl y S4,000,000.00 should hesitate to venture for the Lord's Kingdom? The Detroit Lutheran High School Association is stronger today than ever before in its history - 78 congregations now hold membership in the association. During this year a unity among our churches, our pastors, the men and women of our churches has been effected that is really heart- warming and encouraging. ln unity there is strength, with strength we can proceed. As we look to the future, we envision beautiful, new buildings with ample facilities, and property to care for the enrollment of all of our young people who wish to go to Lutheran High, we envision two school districts each supporting its own school, two student-bodies, two faculties, two divisions of all our auxiliary groups, two Lutheran activity centers for Detroit Lutheranism. The entire Detroit Lutheran High School Association, its Board of Trustees, our loyal and dedi- cated pastors and teachers who are waiting and praying for a reality on the East Side and on the West Side, herewith extend congratulations to the 1956 graduates. May our Heavenly Father, Who has so wisely guided you in the past years, stay and go with you as you plan and choose your place in the world. To the students who remain at 5040 Joy Road we give our determined pledge that as our eyes are to the future, our hearts and hands are to the new schools. gf A my 7 g , M 4 T DETROIT A DETROITLUTH X H'fH 5CllllClglllRAN HIGH gc ERAN 7 , X WEST- - HOQL X 1 4454, V EAS11 ? vvrpaw LBJ' if 'V i e R 5' Q 5 9 fV V i yggyg oi?
