Pioneering. . . We watched our school grow from the breaking of ground to the rise of the first girders, the Walls being formed into rooms, bricked in, cement poured and doors set to encase the many classrooms and other excellent facilities pre- sent now. ..That there is still more to do before our school is complete, cer- tainly gives us, the class of 1958, a theme that needs no dressing up...nothing added but the truth that exists. . .Thus we are Proud to be first. . . proud of our class, our school, as Well as of our spirit. 2 me Grnemfone laying fAe Eginning . jAe Ebealica fion 34164 of gonfenffi Introduction ..... Advertisements . . ,. 4 Eeclica fion We dedicate this, our yearbook, to Mr. Berwyn Lemke, who has done so much in the pioneering of our new school. We recognize his hard work as assistant principal, Band and Choir director, and Senior Class and Aquila sponsor. His genuine interest, friendliness, and willingness to serve has been a great aid to us, and we now wish to show our appreciation and give our thanks to Mr. Lemke. May God bless him richly through all his life and reward him with peace and satisfaction. 5 ion eerin g 2 . 5 5 2 A 1 3 swf X X65 It takes more than mortar, bricks, cement, wood, and materials to make a fine institution of learning. . .It takes men and women who are dedicated to service. . .both to God and man. Who are willing to make certain sacrifices to assist those in their charge to the finer things of life. Thus we are proud to present them in the pages that fol- low. . .are grateful for all they mean to us. . .are thankful that they too have the spirit of pioneering in their hearts, a.nd are willing to grow with us to what we all know will be a successful adventure. . . . Our Secretary, Mrs. Haack ion eerin 9 eng, F3 The honor of being the first to graduate from Lutheran High East is indeed a privilege. .it is something for us to remember and be proud of all the rest of our lives. How- ever, there isn't all joy in graduation. It remains for us, the first pioneers, to make the most of what we have gained in our short stay here.. .to hold fast to all we have learned . . .to profit by the examples set before us. . .to go on to greater things. It is rather for us to say to those we leave behind. . . continue the spirit. . . kindle it well. . . keep it glowing. . .go on and on, so that someday all will know of the Alma Mater we pioneered. .. - - . enior.4 -Y Dan Kunert President Bob Ravell Treasurer efyidweyivffwf ff? + ff, A ww ,M D017 ,,e,f,M,H-.JW juwfw mfwe 4 W-V ?x WLM? 4' W7' ffifwvt mY'A'l' Aff! yn f1ffY.f,02if fu A f,:4 ,..fl,?f 49 f-ffffflv X tiff. f-J 'gl-'47'fF cfm, Umm, Eifw i Llp .f ,ffJi'f'L U U,f!f,WQMl!v1,,3L'M Zi7.f'M! They are entrusted with the jobs of helping keep order throughout school, taking care of the student lounge, and the handling of weekly chapel collections. Largely through the efforts of the council over Sl, 800 was pledged by the student body for needed equipment in school. Now that the first year of LHE Student Council history has been written and the foundation laid for the future, succeeding years will find increased activity and continued service from this consecrated organization. f C: -J.. They had to be first. ..there was no story to tell before this one. Thus these things became our treasures. . .the joys we found between classes, in and around school. ..and all were done in the spirit of pioneering. Much more will be added to succeeding classes, but none will be more remembered. . .none will be more inspiring. . .none will have a finer meaning. . . And with these pages, we, the class of 1958, bring our book to a close. ..In so doing, we invite all competition. . .ask all to try and doubt our true spirit. . . try to doubt that we are truly pioneers. . . .5.4..f,zeL ! Although we have seen the beginning of this beautiful building, we need not stop planning ahead and thinking of the future. Someday soon we hope to see many welcome additions--a permanent administration wing, an equipped cafeteria, a gymnasium, a complete athletic field, and eventually a swimming pool. Therefore, we can actually say that we are not the last pioneers. In the years to come, there will also be many opportunities for the students, as well as the faculty, to show their spirit of pioneering, which has been so definitely been present throughout this year. wr , - - .za 4 -N MS 'rr' HI , TWERAN 2 0 H SC H 001 Q E A S I 3 i E f . , M..
