Thirteen boys attended the initial tryouts. Coach Carl Napier was planning on an ambitious 4-game slate that would include Fairview, ll. City, Principia,St. Louis ll. High, Beaumont, Central, vn. John Burroughs. He stated, Ulf the boys work hard we ought to have a pretty good season. A growing interest in tennis at LHS was shown by the fact that a B-team was planned for the first time. Under the direction of Coach Lou Schroer, four- teen freshmen and sophomores attendedthe opening practice sessions. ei' s Varsity: T. Nolde fMgrJ, R. Staudte, R. Hochgrebe, R. Reagan, J. Pfabe, G. Zellinger, J. Alewel, A. Morrisson Bringing Crusader fans many thrills, this year's varsity cagers finished with a l0-9 record in a season that included games with many of the area's best teams. Among the Crusader conquerors were three teams that went to state, Beaumont, Maplewood, and Mercy, and the district's top inde- pendent and Class B teams, St. Louis U. High and Bayless. One of the features of the season came when the Crusaders completely reversed last year's form by sweeping the two-game series with Luther North and Luther South of Chicago. ln the game against highly-rated Luther South, Lutheran's cagemen hit for 89 points, a new school record. However the highlight of the year came anti-climatic to the season. For the first time in the history of LHS the varsity defeated the alumni as Coach Bob Bishop's hardwood men turned back their former team mates 44-4l. The Soph and Frosh teams turned in exceptionally fine seasons. Coach Lou Schroer's B-team posted a 12-5 record and Coach David Rohde's Freshmen finished with a 7-3 mark. ,ern - ff:' l'-A?f'- ' V 7 1' We ' E S5 Lf O ft I. B Team: Row One: L. Chocholousek, R.
