Dedication We, the class of 1980, wish to dedicate this yearbook to John Krznarich, a long time teacher and friend of everyone at Luther L. Wright and the Gogebic Range. Mr. Krznarich was born and raised in Ironwood. After graduating from L. L. Wright, he continued his education at Ironwood Junior College for one year. He received an athletic scholarship to Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa. While in high school, John nad little time for extracurricular activities as he worked and, believe it or not, was very shy. Making it through college was not an easy task during the depression years. In college, he played football and basketball with great enthusiasm. In fact, Merts Morterelh, Coach at Wisconsin State University, was one of his teammates. Other classmates were Ann Landers and Abigail VanBuren. His decision to teach was the outcome of a mining accident to a fellow worker. In 1940, he came to Luther L. Wright to teach Social 12, the only subject he taught in his 40 years in the classroom. December 15. 1942, he joined the army and served in the European Theater in General Patton's 3rd Army. On January 7, 1946, he returned to teaching at IHS. He resigned in 1946, but returned in time for the 1947-48 school year. From now on it's reducing the rabbit population on a full time basis.

John Gallagher, Martin Erickson, John M. Krznarich, Merts Mortcrclli Student Sentiment John has four brothers and one sister. He married Pat Toutloff in 1943 while he was in the army attending the University of Minnesota. They have two grandchildren, a daughter, Kristene, and a son Jon, deceased. Coaching the football and basketball teams played an important part in his years at L. L. W. He started the Little League Baseball System in the Ironwood Area. The City of Ironwood honored him by dedicating the Little League Field to him in 1979. He is a member of the Elks Club and U. P. Sports Hall of Fame Council. He has been the Head of the National Athletic Honor Society for many years, as well as being the Senior Class Advisor. Although John is in many organizations, he was unable to become a Boy Scout for some deep, dark reason. (Wnat a knucklehead!) Deciding whether to retire or to keep teaching was a difficult decision, and his plans for retirement are not definite. His wife says he will probably spend his leisure hours hunting, fishing, and cooking. (He supposedly is a big pest in the kitchen) We wish him well in his retirement. We will miss him. It is unfortunate that all underclassmen could not have been as lucky as we were to have Mr. Krznarich for a teacher. Community Recognition
