Foreword We, the editors of the 1968 Hematite, have chosen “Trees” as our theme; for trees are like students. They have deep roots; they have branches extending in many directions. Their leaves absorb the energizing sunlight. Similarily, in life, knowledge must be put to work so that it may nourish all mankind. Many things have happened this year at I. H. S. Friendships were made. There were games and dances. Voices were hoarse after cheering our team on to victory. Everyone had his share of homework, tests, and semester exams. There were moments of success and failure for each of us. We have tried to put all these memories into this year's Hematite. As you turn the pages of this book, we hope you will find a memory on every page. We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who worked so long and hard to make this yearbook possible. STANDING: Edwin Reini; Fred Dubbe, Treasurer; Bernard E. Larson, Attorney; George M. Kahara; Robert Baron. ABSENT: Elmer Mickelson, Ex-officio. Members of the Board of Education are elected by school voters for terms of four years. Their service to the schools of Ironwood is given without compensation. Responsibility rests with the Board of Education for determining all school policy, approving the selection of all staff members, the courses to be taught, and the instructional material to be used. The Board adopts and administers the annual budget. Many hours are spent by each member performing the duties for which he is elected.
