if.izi.1..i. Our camp is an expression of a vision that grew out of years of con- structive imagination and faith. There were certain things that we believed girls loved and would be better women for having had.. - Our WOHELO BIRD is a symbol of the dream-and hopes with which we worked. When we give a girl a Wohelo Bird to wear onher sweater it indicates that she is an ideal Wohelo Girl, because she is attaining physical perfection and mental balance. She understands the importance of physical control and is a master of her body. She is loyal to herself and to her com- munity. She' is able to live with other people, recognizing and respecting differences in personality. She knows how to work with other peopleg she has learned teamwork. Her judgment is steady and dependable. Her spirit is kindly and she can be counted upon at all times, whether things are going well or badly, and she is full of the love of doing things, and she sees the humorous side of life. We admire serious girlsg but we adore girls brimming over with the joy of being alive. It is a sacred responsibility to -own a Wohelo Bird. We believe the following girls are worthy to receive this emblem this year: , f Jane Allen Susan Howlett Ann Borden Lucy Haskell Marty Jane Congleton ean Hughes Carolyn Cramton Patsy Lanpher Viola Farber Ann Sipple Elaine Fischer Peggy Steiner mia! .joreworcl The other day Dottie and I flew upto camp. It was the first time we had been back since camp closed, and we looked forward to the trip with a great deal of joy. We have always felt that camp is our real home. As we circled camp, wefcould see 'Dave and Charlie waving to us from the rocks. They have been working 'all fall, getting the boats in readiness for next summer, repairing the docks, building new tables and benches, stain- ing some of the buildings, getting the ice houses ready for ice this winter, and doing many other jobs. I-t was good' to see camp. There was the same view from the dining room, the water is just as clear, the- rocks are as interesting as ever, Sen- halone is just as cozy - but as we walked through camp there was a lone- liness, a strange silence. There was no piano playing on the tennis court, the dock was empty, there were no hammering sounds from White Moun- -tain, no calling' from the dock or the lake.. There were no sailboats in the cove, the paths were empty, and there were no pleasant smells coming from the kitchen. We ,always think of camp as we leave it, and there is bound to be some disappointment when we find things changed. The place was the same, but it came 'to us, more forcefully than ever before, that the place is just a shell, a background for the real and vital part of camp, the campers and the counselors. . As you look through this book, you will be reminded of the place, but your real joy will come from seeing the faces of the people you knew, and finding their names in the address list and among .those who won honors. Dottie and I hope you will enjoy it, and that it will bring back the memory of our happy times together. If you should pick it up, live, ten, fifteen or twenty years from now, 1 hope it will still bring back memories, and that it may remind you to keep in touch with us. We always want to know what our campers are doing. ' ' HALs1sY TN, RHYMQNK- caps.
