THE PRINCIPAL SPEAKS . . . The hour to which you are looking forward with more eagerness and impatience than any other in your whole lives has almost arrived. We are doing the best we can to prepare you for that great hour, which is so rapidly approaching, so that when you have finished your work here you will be able to take your places as capable, efficient, and thoughtful workers in the various fields you have chosen. In this Class of 69, will be found some of our leaders of tomorrow: doctors, lawyers, bankers, teacher aide, some will even be high school principals. The important thing that we earnestly hope for is that every member of the Class of 69 will, as a result of his experience here, go into the world equipped to make some contribution to the community in which he will live. Theodore Roosevelt once said: “All daring and courage, all iron endurance of misfortune, make for a finer, noble type of manhood.” “Courage, hard work, self-mastery, and intelligent effort are all essential to a successful life.” “Only those are fit to live who do not fear to die, and none are fit to live who have shrunk from the joy of life and the duty of life.” The work has been hard and the competition keen. For five years you have made endless sacrifices in order that you would realize this day. Already you see the results of hard work. The real payoff will come to those of you who will be better able to face the hardships of life, and who will receive a lasting joy out of serving mankind as a trustee for God and Humanity. May you remain loyal, sincere, and efficient, and may you carry with you into the waiting world a proven message and much needed leadership. It is my great pleasure to extend to you congratulations upon your graduation. I express the sentiment of the faculty, students, and alumni of Luther H. Foster High School. A. B. Cousins, Principal 6
