This means progress to a great nation. This also means that the graduates of today have a âRendezvous With Life.â Thus in order to keep this rendezvous, preparation is necessary. Foster High School does its part in seeing that young minds and bodies are trained for this appointment. As we move toward our rendezvous with life, we leave a part of ourselves behind. May the memories of our failures, and our successes, our sorrows and our joys all serve to strengthen us as we keep our rendezvous with life, and may they serve to inspire the readers of the 1968 Bulldog to a greater and fuller future. Class of 1968 2 PREP A RATION RENDEZ VO US 3 FOR LIFE INCLUDES 4 DEDICATION TO OUR PARENTS We the 1968 graduation class of Luther H. Foster High School do hereÂŹ by dedicate this annual to our beloved parents in appreciation for your understanding, guidance, patience, and care which has made this moment possible. âThen I thought of you, Your gentle soul, Your large and quiet kindness Ready to caution and console . . .Louis Untermeyer 5 THE YEARBOOK STAFF Editors .Calvin Nunally Carolyn Tucker Co-Editors.Shirley Tucker Herman Greenhill Sponsors.Miss D. E. Webb Mr. H. M. Glover 6 ADMINISTRATION 7 A MESSAGE OF ENCOURAGEMENT It is my great pleasure to extend to you congratulations upon your graduation. I express the sentiments of the faculty, students, and alumni of Luther H. Foster High School. We have done the best we can to prepare you for this great day, so that when you go out into the world, you will be able to take your places as capable, efficient, and thoughtful workers in the various fields which you have chosen. Your challenges will be the greatest ever faced by any generation; your opportuniÂŹ ties will be on a wider scale and a higher level than have been granted to a graduating class of Luther H. Foster High School. I hope that you will recognize them when they come, and that you will realize that they are given to you, not only for your selfish ends, but in order you might help others. You are taking your places in the world at a time when there is intellectual, religious and moral ferment. You will have to find your way in a complicated but great civilization, and under institutions of freedom, the most perfect the world has ever known. We trust that the training which you have received here will enable you to appreciate your unusual opportunities and will make you sensitive to your obligations to your fellow man. We believe that true success in life will come to those who are most persistent, who work in the truest spirit, and who are even willing to go the second mile. A. B. Cousins Principal 8 MRS. V. F. HUFF - Cashier MISS ELSIE EVANS - Secretary 9 IN TRIB UTE It is with a deep feeling of gratitude that we, the Senior class of 1968, give tribute to one who has worked so faithfully for Foster High School. It is he, Mr. William L. Carter, who has strived relentlessly to teach the students in their effort to learn. He has skillfully guided us and carefully advised us over the years. In essence, he has tried to the best of his ability to prepare us for tomorrows world of challenge. Mr. Carter is loved and admired by many. To us, he is a martyr symbolizing true dedication to the teaching profession. Therefore, to him we are honored to pay special tribute. 10 F ACU LTY 11 MR. C. C. WINDOM French and English MRS. The anxiety carried by us all, as it is aroused by each thought of them apart from us, can only be eased by the ever-present memory of the happiness experienced from having known them. They will alÂŹ ways be remembered as long as we can recall loved ones of yesterday in sweet recollections today. .in thoughts of companions lost, I was troubled no more when also I thought of their true virtues of goodness, and His Promise divine. 32 CLASS MOTTO: Today Pioneers Tomorrow New Frontiers CLASS COLOR: Blue and White CLASS FLOWER: Pink Carnation CLASS POEM As we look through the looking glass, We see reflections of years passed. Young years, middle years, senior years are there- Good years and bad years reflected everywhere. As our gaze is filled and our minds look back, Reflected there are all of the facts- The activities weâve joined and the classes Weâve attended, And on our studies the time we have spent. The friends weâve made and their keen competitions, The goals weâve set and their new positions; The studying and faithfulness, the faculty has inspired From the Administration, the guidance and loyalty weâve acquired. Memories of years as under classmen reflect, These are precious memories we cannot forget, Every experience of our school life is a priceless treasure So lengthy that no one tape can measure. But as reflections fade out as reflections will do; We think of the future and experiences anew. These reflections have reminded us of otherâs help Implied as we might have âI did it myself.â But as these numerous and useful ideas take hold. We must proceed to achieve our goals. So that when others meet the cross roads as our class, We might reflect in their âlooking glass.â By Bernard Ford 34 CLASS PROPHECY The report direct from the Johnson Communicationâs Sattelite, which was put aloft by Jack Johnson and his team of experts: Jesse Hawkes, William Harris, and Linda Gilliam. All assisted by the special space expert, Willie Neal. The scene is a 1998 model of an atomic powered ship, enroute around the world. The ship is owned by Calvin Nunnally and Willie Holmes. The shipâs power unit is supplied by the Chaffin Foundation of Science Research. On the first stop we find Doris Bowler, Bessie Peace and John Dyson working busily in their newly formed Atomic Reactor Plant, while Joann Branch, Dorothy Williams, Carolyn Rather and Evelyn Parker go about their duties in the surgery section of the Watson Hospital. As we venture further, we find Samuel Hawkes, Bernard Ford, Joseph Yates and Burnett Wilson on the far side of Thailand doing great business as big oil men. Franklin Todd, HarÂŹ old Davis, Jesse Reynolds and Dennis Hobbs are preparing to launch another vacation trip to the planet Moesholl, a resort for many well to do citizens, like Connie Johnson, Raymond Harris, Michael Hawkes, and Lois Hurte. On the next stop we come to a bustling port called the Bay of Harper. The foreman of the work is Kenneth Vaughan. His main job is seeing that no one touches the computer controls, which direct all ship activity. Speaking of ship activity, the Inter-glatic Space Patrol is directed by John Holmes who has been decorated several times for bravery above and beyond the call of duty. He was decorated by President Wendell Clay. As the mighty vessel moves on, we notice the skill at which it is handled at the speed of 499.99 knots. We find the exÂŹ perienced hand of Irby Stokes at the wheel. Orpheus Tucker efficiently handles the job of first mate. As the great liner scans the ports of the world, we see such people as Virginia Jennings, the famous lady heart specialist; Richard Wilson, the airplane manufacturer; and Sarah Yates, the world renowned diplomat. In one famous seaport we appeared on a television program sponsored by Harvey Branch Enterprises. We even saw Sylvester Green, the widely known movie director. On the return lap of our trip, we met astronaut, Herman Greenhill, who was preparing for a 5 year voyage to the Morgan Galaxy. His plans included conferring with noted diplomat Mary Tucker. When we finally returned to Wyatt City, we found standing waiting eagerly for our return. Hartwell, Pegram Webb, and special assistant Randolph presented us with the key to the city. Our efforts preserved in this annual are only symbolic of the work put forth to reach this point of farewell. Spirited by our parents, guided by our instructors, driven by our own will to succeed, we come not to the end of a journey, but to the threshold of a lifeâs work. We can look back on well spent days with contentment and pride. We can face our new chalÂŹ lenges confidently because we have met the old ones sternly. We can go on because perÂŹ severance has been instilled within us. With the results of life as uncertain as they are, we still make our bid for success. Where time will put us only God can tell, but to those we leave behind we bid you farewell.
