CLASS HISTORY The five rugged years which appeared to have been an eternity, are at last a reality and only a mere flash of time. The date of September 5, 1959, will always be alive in our minds; for on that day, one hundred and thirty-nine eager eighth graders were looking with appre¬ hension and hesitation upon the five years ahead of us at Luther H. Foster. The mere thought of being eighth graders in this great school caused us to jump for joy. A number of us became members of various organizations, participated in various activities, and were elected officers of different clubs: Jeannette Johnson was chaplain of the S.P. A., Alice Bland and Beatrice Wynn were poetry winners in a contest. Our first year was interesting, enjoyable, and profitable. At the end of the year we were ready for the oncoming challenges. Our Freshman year required much more thought, work, and study than the first one, but we won. More of our classmates participated in various activities. Cora Peace, Shirley Knight, and Eugene White were awarded certificates in the All State Choir. Ruth Green, Jeannette Johnson, Curtis Pritchett, and Mearl Smith joined the basketball squads. Susan Schancks, Lillie M. Wilson, Lillian Ford, and Pattie Tucker joined the cheering squad. Ann Hanks was elected Miss FBLA. Clarice Wynn was third place winner in the Homecoming Contest. As our Sophomore year began to unfold, our achievements were many. We had become entirely accustomed to our roles in the Foster family. Our Junior year marked the last half of our High School Career and granted us many responsibilities . Even though a great many of our classmates were no longer in school, the r emainder of us were determined to strive on. Qualified members of our class became members of the National Honor Society. Our talent show -- Stars on Parade, was the best ever presented at our Alma Mater. Prom time! May 24, 1963. The prom was held at the Dillard Street Community Center in honor of the Seniors of 1962. The theme was Stairway to the Stars. On September 4, 1963, we became Seniors. This called for a celebration; and actually, it lasted all year. We tried at all times to perform a minimum of work and to have a maximum of fun. Now, as we end our career at Foster High, we pause to say thanks to our principal, Mr. Joseph B. Pervall; our sponsors, and all members of the fac¬ ulty for their help which was greatly needed. So ends our class history. It leaves us with a heart full of sadness but a lot of memories which we will forever relive. 8 Ann Hanks Paula King Jeannette Johnson
