Motto: Climb, though the mountains be rugged Colors: Black Gold Class Poem The Last Farewell Nineteen sixty-three is slowly passing by, Now is the hour when we must say good-by. We hate to leave, though we know we must, Fond memories of you linger with us. As we go out to accomplish our aims, We ' ll apply whole heartedly all we ' ve gained. All the honesty, truth and love, And reverence to our Father above. We thank our parents and faculty too, For being understanding, kind and true. With your help we have done our best, Alone, now we must stand the test. With the road ahead and a milestone we see, May we be what you would like us to be. When we are on our own, if we start to stray, May the hand of God show us the way. Ivornell Evans William Anderson Class Song Tune -- Now is the Hour The class of ’63, hates very much to say That we must leave you, to find a brighter day. We never will forget, the things for us you ' ve done And will try to make you proud of every one. Dear ole Foster High, we’ll always love you so As the years go by, more finer we will grow. And to you our school, we will always know That you dear ole Foster High, taught us the way to go. As we move on, we would like to see Dear ole Foster High go down in history. If this shall not be, we will still be glad For we ' ll remember you and the good times we had. Claiborne Shelton Elizabeth Hurte 6

CLASS HISTORY On September fourth, nineteen hundred and fifty-eight, one hundred and thirty two eighth graders enrolled in Luther H. Foster, looking forward to becoming honorary members of the much talked about Foster Family. Our first year was an enjoyable one. Many of us were fortunate enough to make the honor roll and participate in extra-curricular activities. At the end of the year, we had met all the requirements of eighth graders. Happily, we departed for our summer vacation. When we returned to Foster in September as Freshmen, we were allowed to participate in athletic activities such as baseball, football and basketball. Many of the students became very outstanding in the different sports. During our Sophomore year we made great progress. Our class in 1960 was fortunate to have Louise Ford as second place winner in the May Queen Con¬ test. Then we departed looking forward to returning the next session. In the year 1961, we became Juniors. The class officers were: President, Rod¬ ney Miller; Vice President, Melvin Randle; Secretary, Betty Eppes, Assistant Secretary, Carrie Neal; Treasurer, Barbara Graham; Parliamentarian, Richard Madison; Reporter, Louise Ford; Chaplain, Beatrice Eppes. We were honored to have Hattie Wynn as second place winner for Miss Home¬ coming. We presented a Talent Show, ” Shower of Stars.” The most talented students in the school and surrounding schools participated in it. We considered it the best ever given. That year we were able to attend the Junior-Senior Prom, which was held at the Community Center in Blackstone, Virginia. The theme of the prom was Bon Voyage in honor of the departing seniors. This was a gala affair. We climaxed the year with a picnic at Prince Edward State Park and had a wonderful time. Eighty-four of the one hundred and thirty-two members who entered Foster in nineteen hundred and fifty-eight returned as prospective graduates. The other forty-eight had been lured into the outside world. However, we, eighty-four were determined to climb, though the mountains were rugged. The officers of the Senior Class were: President, Melvin Randle; Vice Presi¬ dent, Ethell Bagley; Secretary, Betty Eppes; Assistant Secretary, Elizabeth Hurt; Treasurer, Barbara Graham; Parliamentarian, William Anderson; Sargent- at-Arms, James Pritchett. Now, as we, the class of ' 63, stand at the peak of our high school career, we realize how much our principal, teachers, and advisers have helped us. What¬ ever success we may gain will be due to their patient instructions. May the guiding light of success direct our feet into the paths that will lead us to a future of progress. Ann Robertson Melvin Randle 7
