We hate to leave, though we know we must, Fond memories of you linger with us. As we go out to accomplish our aims, We ' ll apply whole heartedly all we ' ve gained. All the honesty, truth and love, And reverence to our Father above. We thank our parents and faculty too, For being understanding, kind and true. With your help we have done our best, Alone, now we must stand the test. With the road ahead and a milestone we see, May we be what you would like us to be. When we are on our own, if we start to stray, May the hand of God show us the way. Ivornell Evans William Anderson Class Song Tune -- Now is the Hour The class of ’63, hates very much to say That we must leave you, to find a brighter day. We never will forget, the things for us you ' ve done And will try to make you proud of every one. Dear ole Foster High, we’ll always love you so As the years go by, more finer we will grow. And to you our school, we will always know That you dear ole Foster High, taught us the way to go. As we move on, we would like to see Dear ole Foster High go down in history. If this shall not be, we will still be glad For we ' ll remember you and the good times we had. Claiborne Shelton Elizabeth Hurte 6 CLASS HISTORY On September fourth, nineteen hundred and fifty-eight, one hundred and thirty two eighth graders enrolled in Luther H. Foster, looking forward to becoming honorary members of the much talked about Foster Family. Our first year was an enjoyable one. Many of us were fortunate enough to make the honor roll and participate in extra-curricular activities. At the end of the year, we had met all the requirements of eighth graders. Happily, we departed for our summer vacation. When we returned to Foster in September as Freshmen, we were allowed to participate in athletic activities such as baseball, football and basketball. Many of the students became very outstanding in the different sports. During our Sophomore year we made great progress. Our class in 1960 was fortunate to have Louise Ford as second place winner in the May Queen Con¬ test. Then we departed looking forward to returning the next session. In the year 1961, we became Juniors. The class officers were: President, Rod¬ ney Miller; Vice President, Melvin Randle; Secretary, Betty Eppes, Assistant Secretary, Carrie Neal; Treasurer, Barbara Graham; Parliamentarian, Richard Madison; Reporter, Louise Ford; Chaplain, Beatrice Eppes. We were honored to have Hattie Wynn as second place winner for Miss Home¬ coming. We presented a Talent Show, ” Shower of Stars.” The most talented students in the school and surrounding schools participated in it. We considered it the best ever given. That year we were able to attend the Junior-Senior Prom, which was held at the Community Center in Blackstone, Virginia. The theme of the prom was Bon Voyage in honor of the departing seniors. This was a gala affair. We climaxed the year with a picnic at Prince Edward State Park and had a wonderful time. Eighty-four of the one hundred and thirty-two members who entered Foster in nineteen hundred and fifty-eight returned as prospective graduates. The other forty-eight had been lured into the outside world. However, we, eighty-four were determined to climb, though the mountains were rugged. The officers of the Senior Class were: President, Melvin Randle; Vice Presi¬ dent, Ethell Bagley; Secretary, Betty Eppes; Assistant Secretary, Elizabeth Hurt; Treasurer, Barbara Graham; Parliamentarian, William Anderson; Sargent- at-Arms, James Pritchett. Now, as we, the class of ' 63, stand at the peak of our high school career, we realize how much our principal, teachers, and advisers have helped us. What¬ ever success we may gain will be due to their patient instructions. May the guiding light of success direct our feet into the paths that will lead us to a future of progress. Ann Robertson Melvin Randle 7 CLASS PROPHECY Time -- 1973 Place --In Orbit Purpose --To Report on the Class of 63 We are living on Status-Mars and we are happy to let you in on the happenings of our former classmates. William Anderson now runs a dancing school on Wobble Street. Eliza¬ beth Hurte and James Tucker are instructors. We saw the Mars Colts play in Mars Stadium under the supervision of Coach James Pritchett. His star players are Richard Madison, Warren Oliver, Charles Thomas and Theodore Marshall. Deloris Johnson and Shirley Tucker are on the Cheering squad. Rodney Miller and Melvin Randle are now like way out testing their new invention, the space car. In the Venus Moonlight Club we saw Claiborne Shelton and Samuel Downs who are playing with the Contours and Dorinda Fitzgerald whaling with My Little Space Lover. Ethell Bagley, Betty Eppes and Lucille Oliver, in their little Star School, are teaching Spacemen to speak French. Hattie Wynn was fined $25, 000 for switching and swaying down Jupiter Street. Clara Hawkes and Donald Simpson, along with Louise Ford and George Campbell are married and own lovely homes on Pluto. Carolyn Tucker and Lewis Tucker were recently charged by the planet men for over reducing. Robert Daniels, Wilfred Shelton and William Vaughan were beheaded and buried in Venus Cemetery for jilting the governors three daughters. At Orbiters Baptist Church we worshipped with Rev. George Wells, the Pastor, Christine Parham, soloist and Agnes Hawthorne, church clerk. Beatrice Eppes, Lillian Dodson, Carrie Neal and Jean Booth have all earned their R.N. degrees and are now surgeons at tfieCDymarsier Hos¬ pital on Cape Street. They assist Drs. Barbara Graham and Barbara Gills. Barbara Hawkins, Ivonell Evans, and Alvin Fowlkes own the Space Beauty Salon where they specialize in the whaling” hair style, the Orbit Twist.” The Hill Sisters are married to the Mountain Brothers and are joint owners of the Hill and Mountain Nursery on Rocket Avenue. The Earthmen have just succeeded in touching the moon with Astronaut Carmichael Hurte. Astronomers Charlie Jones, William Love, Edward Jones and Lawrence Harris were instructing him. Rosa Jones and Essie Mason are millionaires. How? With their famous 8 perfumes, the Star Sniff. The Earthmen will hold their convention on Jupiter Street and Delois Butcher, Shirley Paige and Gloria Hawkes will model Space Suits. Jannie Ford is head of the Mars Police Department. For laughs you should watch Mattie Ingram and Collin Foster on MV 2 with the most comical show existing -- The Tickling Jup-Juppers. Ann Robertson, Vernell Tucker, Gloria Walker and Florence Tee won that great trophy entitled Best Man Catchers In Orbit. At Sunlight Restaurant on Moon Street, Christine Woodson, proprietor, specializes in that famous dish Green Onions. Waitresses at this famous restaurant are Eva Bland, Ellen Friend, Bernice Hawkes, Carletha Fowlkes and Lorraine Fitzgerald. Barbara Tucker has produced the motion picture, Walk On The Wild Side. Eunice Oliver is the leading lady and Rosie Tucker is giving her private walking lessons. On Station V V T we watched Walker Rides Again starring the famous William Walker. Edith Watson, Josephine Walker, Patricia Barkley, Virginia Douglas, and Ida Holloway just landed on the cloud burst after wandering around in space for ten years. Harry Bowler, Percy Wilson, Edward Gray, Richard Green, Thomas Parrish, Richard Stokes, Robert Hardy and James Harris were not heard of after graduation 1962 but we ' ve recently heard that they are still on the moon giving earthly information to the Moonmen. Although all of us have succeeded in making great spacemen, we still long to see sweet, loving faces of the Earth Men. Foster High School who have been outstanding in athletics and who have earned letters for their efforts. 50 .So long as men can breathe or eyes can se r e, So long lives this, « and this, gives life to,th§ mmistratiom MR. JOSEPH B. PERVALL A. B. VIRGINIA UNION UNIVERSITY M. S. VIRGINIA STATE COLLEGE A Message from the Principal Another school year has rolled by and another group of seniors are about to depart. Each class seems to have its own characteristics, which set it aside from the others. Each year they step out in a world having problems different from those of previous years . Some leave stepping out into a world blessed with peace, while others leave facing a world cursed by war. You face a world of wars afar off and rumors of wars on your own doorstep, It is our prayer and hope that the education you have received will enable you to ad¬ just yourselves to whatever change the world will encounter. Yet, forever-remem¬ ber, that the most important factors such as: honesty, loyalty, kindness, truth and justice are stable. These qualities are today as they ever were. These are the vir¬ tues that mark you as one seeking the eternal. These virtues out-rank, out-shine, and out-value all the material things you may gather or fail to gather. They bring the true happiness. May God be with you along whatever path fate leads you. 52 Miss Dunn 12th Grade Mrs. Davis 11th Grade Mr. Hamilton 8th Grade Miss Singleton 9th Grade Miss Faulkner 10th Grade 54 • . fm mm ■ hh «r wi nitiw itfsBl It Ta MRS.
