Homecoming weekend encom- passed the history of Luther College. It represented 112 years of academ- ics, faculty and students. The return- ing alumni brought back to Luther the essence of the historical back- ground ofthe college. Memories filled the overcast fall weekend with the thoughts of the old college daysf' The physical plant, the cam- pus green, the courses, the customs, the students change with each pass- ing year, but homecoming recalls the founding traditions that made Luther the educational institution of 1974. Alumni observed the current students and activities and savored I2 l-I NG 1972 DAYS OF P!-KQV the past that Luther gave them, and the present enrollment watched the older, more worldly graduates in an attempt to perceive themselves in the days of the future of Luther Col- lege. Homecoming was a time to review oneself in the past, and pro- ject the present moments into the course of the history of the future. People seek only a temporary estab- lishment in Luther College, Luther seeks a permanence in the days of future past. Tommie Turvold of Mason City was crowned queen, to preside over the Homecoming festivities. Her court of princesses were: Marilyn Morse, Spring Valley, Minn., lune Carnsworthy, Prarie du Chien, Wisc., lady-in-waiting Cris Ziemann, Hudson, Wisc., Leslie Smith, Cedar Rapids, Susan Curtis, Mauston, Wis- consin. lay Christianson mastered the order of ceremonies. Special music was performed by the Varsity band, Madrigal Singers and Dave Tangen.
