Jfafzge Jacks! fervfbes Janome Known 6777 Mia Burbank's Orange jackets have become well known in San Antonio as being an outstanding and co-operative group. The girls usher at the livestock show and at the Trinity University football games that are held at Alamo Stadium. The group also attends all of the football games and most of the basketball games. The requirements of an O. I. are to be in the ninth grade or higher, possess character above reproach, have a semester of O. j. training, have a C grade average Or better, and be able to pass a written and marching test Each girl is voted on by the members of the Orange jackets. The group's Sponsor, Miss Gwen Boynton, has con- tributed much of her time to the betterment of the Orange Jackets. She has helped to make the Orange jackets one of the most well known service organization in the city. The girls are required to have short hair and to be well groomed at all times. O. J. members are expected to have their uniforms neatly cleaned and pressed before they attend any Orange Jacket activity. The officers of the Orange jackets are re- quired to inspect the girls' uniforms before they are allowed to participate in any activity. The band appears at football games, street parades and assemblies. They also compete in the University Interscholastic League Contests and participate in the University of Texas Band Day, live- stock show, and the Fiesta of San Jacinto activities. All 120 members enjoy working with their band direc- tor, Mr. Robert M. Geisler who devotes his full time to making a better band. The requirements of a Bulldog Band Member are to be in the ninth grade, hold an Interscholastic League average Mr. james L. Gulley St. Mary's-LLBQ SWTSTC-M.A. Mr. Horace jones Collegianairesg Freshman Class-'63 SWTSTC-B.S. Mr. Arthur Koehler National Honor Society: Senior Class-'60 Trinity University-B.S. ,4 Miss Lorene Labaj SWTSTC and play their instrument better than average. Each band members is required to pay a band fee uf 310.00 a year for repairs of their uniforms and other ex- penses. The Band also has an honor organization, the Lyre Club, made up of members who have earned at least 2,000 merits. Members earn merits for participating in all band activities. Twice a year the Lyre's Club initiates new members into their organization. Many seniors get 4000 merits and their second lyre which is considered quite an honor. Mr. Burlen L. XVith the .assistance of the sponsor, Miss Ruby McPherson, and the editor. the students help compile Burbank's Annual- The Bark . At the beginning of the fall term the class and faculty sections are first on the deadline agenda. Pic- tures are taken early in the year so that the yearbook classes can start identifying them and making up layouts. After these sections are completed the clubs and sports page layouts are begun. Advertising is an impor- tant factor for the Bark as it helps a great deal in paying for the school annual. Annual sales are imperative also.
