hoaffbfzal farm lnffodaoes In 1937, the San Antonio Independent School District, realizing that San Antonio was the center of one of the greatest farming and ranching areas in the state and that agriculture was extremely important to the economy of San Antonio, included plans for a Vocational Agri- culture Program at Luther Burbank Vocational High School. Since the majority of the students enrolling in such a course would come from the city, the school was built in a 75-acre irrigated campus with approximately 50 acres settaside as a' Student Farm Laboratory. t The 'students enrolled in vocational agriculture at Burbank operate their Student Farm just as a farmer or rancher would. The use of the Student Farm in agriculture training has gained popularity 'rapidly with more and more agriculture departments throughout ,the nation adding 'this outstanding training facility to their ,programs each year. The San Antonio School System was one of the first in the nation to include a Student Farm as a training aid in its vocational agriculture program, and the success of the program at Burbank has made it one of the most copied agriculture departments in the country. It has been referred to as the most complete agriculture training facility for young men of high school age to be found anywhere and it draws visitors not only from all parts of the nation but also from throughout the world. i A f9'f f40fW!!lf!.5'ff?f4U0!If V 4

This idea is car- ried out through the book by presenting the different Vocational departments offering COUISES at LUTHER BURBANK VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL. TO THE SENIORS who were able to take advantage of these vocations, we hope that the 1959 BARK holds many memories of achievements and learning acquired in years of study. T0 THE STUDENTS just starting at Burbank we hope that you will examine the opportunit- ies offered through the vocational program and decide which courses is best suited to your likes. TO THE STUDENTS who have been and are staying at Burbank, we hope that you will make the most of whatever program you chose to follow, and it will always benefit your life the best way possible. TO ALL BURBANK PERSONNEL, the staff members hope that this volume of the 1959 BARK will hold pleasant memories of a busy school year which is gone and can never be recaptured except through the pages of this, your BARK. -e lv ,J H 'H QWW ll5ii5q,iiiW W r it e fa vJXlM AwI+:ki W HR ssh.
