W06f7Dl76'f Homemakfkzg lnffoduces E Students of Burbank's I-iomemaking Department, instructed by Mrs. Grace Lindsay and Mrs. Pansy Gaskill, are taught to accomplish the jobs thatiany homemaker or housewife would have to do in his or her life. 1 When school opened in 1937, the primary principles of the Homemaking Department were cooking and sewing. Today the basic plan of the instructors is to Stress home-togetherness. This plan takes a load off of the parents minds. With the facilities provided by the school, the stu- dents are taught to cook, sew, wash and make their clothes, and other necessities to a homemaker. The plan is a program to keep the family as close together as possible. The instructors feel that the more the family works together, the better they will get alohg. Every member of the homemaking classes is required to have a home project. This is one having to do with one of the above mentioned subjects. The student does work at home which pertains to their classwork. ' . Every year the Homemaking Department has a main project helping the handicapped people of San Antonio. The department sent many dozen cookies to the State Mental Hospital. Each student of the Homemaking Department is automatically a member of the FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA, a national organization for high school homemakers. iiii fznfffs'
