Iommefofbl Aff Azffodaces Purposes of the Commercial Art department are several-fold. First, an attempt is made to give each student a fundamental knowledge of art principles plus specialization as far as possible in a chosen art field. Commercial Art, under Mr. james Dulin, tries to keep the vocational student and his problems foremost by assuming work conditions comparable to those met with on the job. 1 2 Students are given opportunity to gain the manual and technical skill necessary for a beginning artist. . e Besides these opportunities offered to students, an effort is made to develop social traits in each student so he or she may be able to work with and for other people. In the first year of art, the basic fundamentals are taught to the student. The student's second year is determined by his ability alone. lf the student is prepared to do the work .of advanced students, they advance to the .three hour vocational class. If they are not ready for this, they do a slightly higher scale of work. than was done in the student's first year. V After graduation from Bc rbank, those students wishing to become skilled artists enter institu- tions of higher knowledge. TP-we who do not choose to go to an art college enter the field :rf lettering, sign painting, cf obs of this nature. !79'f fnmmf
