These people are: Miss Mary Alice Noonan, Mr. Terrell F. Gates, Mrs. Eloise Craw- ford, Mrs. Helen F. Bills, and Miss Lucy Posey. We're truly grateful to these five leaders who have given of their know- ledge and time to help make Burbank the great school it is. This group of charter members and sponsors chose to name their Future Teacher group in honor of Mrs. Lila L. Wadford, who had re- tired from teaching at Burbank the year before. Mrs. Wadford had de- voted the greater part of her life to the education of the young people of America and she served then and now as an inspiration to the mem- bers of the F. T. A. Our Lila L. Wadford Club is an af- filiated member of District II and the Texas State Future Teachers Organi- zation. The District II Convention was a highlight of November 16th. Raiford Ball won 3rd place in the Mr. F. T. A. contest at that time. The State Convention held at North Tex- as State Teachers College in Denton, on March 7, 8, and 9 was thoroughly enjoyed by 10 members. Some other highlights of our F. T. A. The school season for these girls began by helping with registration. Typing file cards, serving as aides for teachers, and showing new students around were a few of the duties on the agenda for registration days. Then came the unforgettable 1957-58 football season. For the senior Orange Iackets, it was an especially exciting season because during their four years of Orange Iacketing, it seemed that they had worked nearly as hard for the district cham- pionship as did the football team. Color Day, an annual event, was another successful ven- ture for the O. I.'s. This is the day when the group sets up color booths and sells color items such as pennants, stickers, bookcovers, beanies, bow ties, pins, etc. The play presented by the O. I.'s this year was The Ghost of Rhodes Manor. This was a humorous mystery play. The Orange Iackets, being known for their ushering abil- ity, were called upon to usher at Alamo Stadium for the Edi- son-Nederland play-off game. This project was followed by an ushering job at the Bexar County Coliseum for the Barnum and Bailey Ringling Brothers Circus. The Twentieth Anniversary Celebration brought back many of the past presidents of the group. Again the Orange Jackets were called upon to live up to their purpose which is- a service organization which has been organized for the bet- terment of Burbank High School. A few of the activities the group undertook during the celebration were showing guests around the school, serving on information booths, and running a color booth with souvenirs for guests to buy. Building supplies and paint have already been purchased and a private office for coun- seling purposes for the sponsor has been completed. Two supply cabinets, a tele- vision set and a couch have been bought and are now in use. Soon the Orange Iackets will undertake the project of paint- ing their room and after the paint job will come the varnishing and waxing of the floors. When this is completed the girls will make drapes and hang them in the room. Decorations for the walls include past Orange Iacket group pictures, an orange and white bulldog and Orange Iacket supplies such as bookcovers. pennants, pins, ribbons and stickers which will be displayed on bulletin boards. Furniture in the room, other than that mentioned above, will consist of desks' for the sponsor, colonel, and secretary, and folding chairs which were purchased by the group. Other equipment already in the room includes two uniform racks, a record player, two fans, two heaters, two built-in supply cabinets, several lockers, a typewriter, and a telephone. Always aspiring to try something new and different, the Orange Iackets added a crack Drill Team to their Organization this year. The members of the Drill Team are the best marchers of the entire O. I. or- ganization and must maintain a certain grade average to be a member of the team. Each girl in the group must con- tend with constant competition because each one knows she must be tops at all times or be replaced. These girls can be recognized by the Dril1 Team patch on their sleeves. This is one patch no one will want to hide! We have also presented our own plays. Last year we did Time Out For Ginger and this year we did Dirty Work at the Cross- roads . Our productions have run from deep drama to mirthful force and melodrama. Thespiarxs provided costumes and makeup for the plays, built the sets and starred in plays besides working backstage. Busy is the only word that effectively describes Troupe 951. Bernice Easly Secretary B. Easly, C. Saathoff, G. Donnally, D. Overbeck. C. Howell, O. Aguilar, S. Wright, C. Ybarbo and F. Phillip. Among the long-remembered plays, either produced, worked on by Thespians or starring club members are: Arsenic and Old Lace , Bertha, the Beautiful Typewriter Girl , and Heaven Can Wait . Under the able di- rection of sponsor Charles Myler, the club will continue to do its best in entertaining the students, faculty, and parents of Burbank School.
