Myler, Charles , Niedortqljoris History Social studies give to the students, further insight and added interest to everyday world affairs. This study gives appreciation of past events making history study material for students in the present. World history recreates the fame of men and women long before us and allows us to compare their accomplishments and failures with the occuring efforts in our time. American history teaches students to know their country better and to appreciate its freedoms. Here pupils are taught the meaning of patriotism and are instilled with a pride in the past triumphs and defeats of our country. Last but not least comes civics. The future citizens of America are brought to understand the func- tions of our government. Duties of the president of our U.S.A. are explained to the class along with the duties of the citizen. The privilege of voting is fully brought out in this course. These and many more topics are the studies involved in history. 18

The Future Homemal-:ers of America organization at Burbank High School is sponsored by Miss Darrow. Members must have taken home making I, at least, to be able to join this club. During the year the girls hold cake sales, cooking contests and many more activities. Homemaking Department Miss Shirley Darrow and Mrs. Millie Moran this year teach homemaking at Burbank High. Miss Darrow heads the depart- ment for future homemakers. Homemaking courses start from the beginners homemaking I to the advanced course of home economics VIII. During the summer vacations this course is offered as a project and extra credits may be gained. Most of the knowledge gained in this course is accomplished through experience. Like most classes The more you put into your work, the more you will get from it in return. Cooking and sewing are the main topics for work. Meals are planned according to budgets, menues and diets. The student has assigned jobs when laboratory days come along. For sewing most girls make blouses, skirts, dresses and even formal gowns. Some of the boys taking this course have come out with new shirts and with the ability to cook a good meal for themselves. Koehler Arthur A Latham, Louise Lucas, William H. McChesney, William Mc Dermand Olidene

Science Nature is explored during biology, physiology and chemistry classes everyday. It is our good fortune to be equipped with the necessary material which is needed in conducting these explorations. Under the guidance of Mr. Frank D. Clark, chemistry teacher, our science department qualifies to be one of the better equipped laboratories. Micro- scope, slides, reading material and utensils are provided for the students use. Our present instructors are well experienced in the field of science, Miss Marguerite Yaeger has had several opportunities of traveling out oi our state and country. Upon returning to Burbank she has contributed to her pupils part of that knowledge which she gained from her experience in traveling. OCONNELL MEDA PARISH. BONNIE PIEPER, ALFRED H. PORTER, IRIS
