The '49 football season wasn't very kind to the Bulldogs. The starting line-up consisted of only four returning lettermen, leaving juniors and sophomores to make up the rest of the squad. C. Sweet, one' of the lettermen, had both legs hurt in the Brst game, leaving him side-lined for the rest of the season. This left only three experienced lettermen on the field. ' The Bulldogs ended a very heart-breaking season by playing their best game of the year against the Tech Buffaloes. It was a Close game, and the boys played furiously until the last gun went off, leaving the score 13-12 in Tech's favor. 109 Managers: john Miller, Billy Fewer of' 9 Q9 Wesley Ritchey, back ah!! r,, Agri? JUNIOR HIGH The Junior High Football teams of 1949 had very good sea- sons. The A squad had a season record of three won and two lost, while the B group had three victories, one defeat and one tie. The B boys had the distinction of pulling the biggest upset of the season when they defeated the highly touted Poe team 13-12. Poe had been unbeaten, untied, and unscored on up to the Bur- bank game. Several of the B members return for another year, and should form a good nucleus for next year's A squad. Coach Roy Wallace CCA!! S U A D Bottom row, left to right: D. Barth, D. Coleman, W. However, to the surprise of everyone the Bulldogs had a very successful season winning 50 percent of their games and defeating both Brack and jeff for the first time in the his- tory of Burbank. jeff won the City Championship. Charles Sweet and Roy West were elected co-captains.
