Through the years his friendship and guidance have been inspir- ing. By his genuine interest in our progress, our edu- cation has been broadened. In appreciation of his service we respectfully dedicate this volume of the Cardinal to Mr. Ben VanAmburg. Mr. VanAmburg received his elementary and secondary education at the Lutesville Grade and High Schools. He attended Will Mayfield College for two years then went to Southeast Missouri State Teachers' College where he received a B. S. in Education. Later he did graduate work at the University of Missouri and received his Masters Degree. He has a total of two hundred and three credit hours. While at Missouri University he became a member of Phi Delta Kappa. His teaching career started when he accepted the positions of Prin- cipal of the Lutesville Grade School and Coach of the High School. During his fourteen years of teaching he has taught various subjects, and served as a coach for ten years. His present schedule includes teaching General Science and C. O. E. and serving as Coordinator- Counselor. It is one of the many activities that help make the school program a success. Even though it is of necessity one of the most difficult activities, because it is an expression of student school life, it has the most gratifying and lasting results. The Yearbook Editor, her staff, and Faculty members are to be commended for the very fine way in which student life is expressed in this year's Cardinal. Sincerely, Thomas E. ORA WELKER r We, the Yearbook Staff of 1956, dedicate this page of our annual to the boys, girls, and coaches of Lutesville High School, who have fought to win the above trophies. They have made an enviable repu- tation all over Southeast Missouri. The lessons learned on the ball courts are carrying over into good citizenship of many who have gone out from L. H. S. into adult life or into the various colleges. We are proud of you! Continue to fight, fight, fight for honesty and fair play in the game of life. We also wish to express our appreciation to Coach Johnson for the fine athletic record his teams have made in the four years he has been at L. H. S. His principal aims have been to teach sportsmanship and the desire to compete. ‘VaUectfaM st '7e z Back row: Coach Johnson, Charles Adamson, Jack James, Bobby Robins, Joe Burk, Bobby Crites. Front row: Carl Myers, Deon Liley, Larry Crader, Jerome Gaines, Al- bert Burrow, Mendall Clark. Coach Johnson and his team compiled a phenomenal record with fourteen wins, against one setback when they were defeated by Greenville. The Cards won first place in the O. H. S. C. The last time the Lutes- ville Boys won first place in the Conference was in 1950. Congratulations to our Coach and Team!!! Don't let him do that! A good one! l oMecffcUl ff 07e z fi First row: Betty Crader, Wanda Baker, Reba Buttry, Sandy Back, Benita Van Amburg. Second row: Rena Buttry, Wanda Woodfin, Danette Crader. Watch that ball!
