StJ .................................- ................... The School Our High School was built in 1924. It is of brick and the large windows add to its beauty. In the summer of 1928 a bond issue to build a Gymnasium was put before the Lutesville people. The issue carried almost unanimously, and the Gymnasium is almost completed at present. SOUTHEAST MISSOURI SUB-DISTRICT TOURNAMENT The Redbirds won their first game by defeating Oak Ridge 26-23 but were eliminated by the Central Tigers of Cape Girardeau in the second contest, losing by a score of 14-17. — 16— The CARDINAL 19 2 9 Basketball Boys Charley Bollinger (Capt.) “Capt” was a stellar player on the team for four years. He was accurate in goal shooting and a good floor man. lie was our high point man this year. We sure will miss him next year. Waldo Allgood “Uncle Mat was good at taking the ball off the backboard and a good passer. There was no one who fought harder than he. Fl oyd Liley “Herk” was the tall center who always guarded his man very closely and usually got the tip off. He will be missed next year. Boyd Slinkard “Slink” had the fight and was fast, be- sides being a good goal shot. He played forward and counted a number of markers. Lester Filer “Red” played guard and could always be relied on to get his man. He is a Soph and will be back next year. John Dale Chandler “T. B.” was a sub forward and gave a good account of himself when he played. Lloyd Spence Spence played forward and guard, play ing well at each position. William Yount “Bill ’ played center and was accurate in goal shooting. — 17 — rze The CARDINAL 19 2 9 Our new Gym was not completed in time for our girls to get in trim for a match game, although their team was organized. This spring they played an inter-tournament here which ended with the Freshman team carrying off the laurels. Freshman - Sophomore, 28 to 15. Junior - Senior, 12 to 15. Fresh- man - Senior, 18-10. This society was named in honor of our High School Superintendent, Mr. T. E. Joyce. Huls — 23 — The CARDINAL 92 9 Elvis Literary Society The Elvis Literary Society was organized in November, 1918 in honor of Elvis Barrett who gave his life during the World War. It has been re- organized each year. Its purpose is to create a deeper interest in literary work, to create a finer feeling of good fellowship among the students and to develop a fine school spirit among the student body. The object of the clubs was to aid in the promotion of all the activities of the school. In November, 1928, the girls and boys Booster Clubs joined together in order to promote successfully the putting out of a high school annual. Feb. 13 — The Red Dragon Dramatic Club presented “Apple Blossom rime.” 'Phis was a comedv-drama. Feb. 20 — Red Dragon Dramatic Club re-present “Apple Blossom Time. March 15 — Red Dragon Dramatic Club entertained the basketball boys at a St. Patrick’s Day party. We presented the boys with sweaters. — 26 — The CARDINAL 929 Willing Worker Club The Willing Worker Club was organized in January for the purpose of helping others. This year we have sent a few boxes to the Southeast Mis- souri Hospital. The Club holds occasional meetings to plan ways in which to help bring rays o’ sunshine to the suffering and shut-ins. Our aim is to learn the true spirit of giving, that we might remember with the poet, Not what we give but what we share, For the gift without the giver is bare. The club is composed of members who enjoy the sport, who are full of vim, and “ready to go.” We are all working toward one definite goal, that being a big. bright, red letter L, and don’t intend to quit until all the miles have been stepped away in order to obtain it. Several miles are now in history, as we have made a number of hiking trips. We are planning to give a carnival in the near future and if that ‘‘goes over”, there’s no telling what we’ll try next. Oak Ridge. L. II. S. was the victim this time. 27—L. II. S. defeated Whitewater II. S. 29— Turkey Day again! 30— The basketball team must have eaten too much turkey—they lost for the first time this season to Fruitland. DECEMBER 7—The boys are in good form again— they won from Piedmont. 14—I.. II. S. won from Teacher Train- ing Preps. 21—L. II. S. won over Fruitland II. S. 24- 30—Christmas vacation. JANUARY 4—L. II. S. defeats Oak Ridge H. S. 8—I., u. S. meets Jackson tonight. (We lost!) 10— 11—Second quarter examinations. “Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet Lest we forget, lest we forget!” 12—L. II.
