W . 5' f E LUTCHER HIGH BOYS--In 1971 83 boys entered Lutcher High Boys for the first time. They entered with apprehension and no girls. After a few weeks of trying to ad- just to a new school, a new en- vironment, and at the same time, getting adjusted to the principa1's cry I dare you and get with it, they settled down to class work. Norman Buckner, principal, held a tight reign. A number of boys joined various sports, organizations, and school clubs. Their sports endeavors were not headlines. They were just about what their spirits were-- very low--no girls! The year ended. Summer passed, and the boys be- gan their Sophomore year with a decrease in class enrollment. The boys supported a magazine sales campaign, were the Bi-district runners up, and were always ready to eat their lunches. Run- ning to the cafeteria to get in the lunch line marked the most mem- orable occasion for the school year '71-'72. The eleventh grade was a mem- orable one. This was time to or- der class rings. Also, this was the year the boys placed high hopes in the success of the football- team. Their hopes proved successful Their hopes proved successful when the team had the opportuni- ty to compete in state champion- ship play offs. The team lost to arch rival Destrehan. Sadness struck when the school as well as the community suffered-- one of football's potential All- American grefats--'Wayne Albert- -was injured. His football career was snapped to an abrupt halt as a result of an injury suffered during practice. The year ended with a memorable occasion. The Library Club--. av - eled tqf' Orlando, Florida. he principal's motto:f You musfhave morals, or you will crumble like a cookie joined the boys on their trip.
