'66 FOREWORD The roads through high school are memorable ones. We hope that through the efforts put into this book, we have portrayed a span of these roads to the future on which each of us treks. Education itself is a widely and much traveled road, with many branches and paths which lead to the different and various goals each individual has set for himself. Just as some roads are unpaved, so are the roads tothe future unpaved. But if the ultimate goal is kept in view, all obstacles, no matter how trying, can be surmounted and the road will have served its purpose as a means of achieving success. We are grateful to our faculty who are quideposts along the roads through high school. Without them ourtrek would be futile. With all these things in mind we present the 1966 ARGUS. VOLUME XIV PUBLISHED BY THE 1966 ARGUS STAFF OF LUMPKIN COUNTY HIGH THE 1966 ARGUS IS DEDICATED TO .. . The person whose warm personality and faithful dedication as a teacher has been a sustaining force in the jour- ney to new achievements; whose devoted Christian character has reached to the heart of each student traveling the sometimes difficult road of high school, and whose shining example has not only been a guidepost on the high school path, but will be a beacon on the long road to the future. To you Miss Modelle Walker, we dedicate this 1966 Argus. 2 A DM IN IS TRA TI BOARD OF EDUCATION Walter Caldwell, Dr. J.G. Woodward, M.D., Ch., Gordon Anderson, Frank Gable, A.G. Wimpy. N.C., Graduate Work SCIENCE As Seniors, we are about to come to the end of a long journey--and the beginning of an even longer one. We view the approach of the end of this journey with mixed emotions; joy, in the anticipation of traveling life's coming roads; sadness, in leaving the familiar, well-beaten path; and apprehension, in seeing changes which must come in the future. On our journeys into the future, we shall come to many crossroads and shall be faced with the decision of which road we should venture upon. We must choose the road according to our own needs and desires, and we must choose wisely, for each road plays a part in determining our future. As we now come to our first major crossroad, so will those who will soon take our places also come to a crossroad of equal importance on their road to the future. It is our hope that they use the experiences gathered on this road, as we have tried to do, to guide them in the wise choice of their road to the future. 9 MRS. DAVIS MRS. ENGERRAND MRS. VINES SENIOR SPONSORS To you, our Senior Sponsors, we wish to express our appreciation for the part you have played in guiding and preparing us for the long road to the future. You have done this willingly with patience and understanding. 10 SENIORS CLASS OFFICERS Kenneth Higgins . Ann Cronan . . . . Mary Ellyn Moore Gail Crowe . . . .
