WESTERN MASS. CHAMPS The Ludlow High School varsity hockey team was crowned as a co- champion of the Fay-Wright Division along with Amherst Regional High for the second year in a row. The Lions capped a brilliant season with Lou Tulik’s spectacular overtime goal against Putnam for the Western Mass. championship. Thus, the team earned a trip to the state semi-finals against Minuteman Vocational of Lexington. Overall, the Lion puck- sters enjoyed a 15 win - 5 loss record for the season. During the 1985-86 campaign the Lions had their ups and downs, but were able to put it all together when it was necessary. The Lions played their best when they were up against the tougher teams of their division. For example, they beat their arch- rival Amherst by the scores of 3-0 and 5-2 during the season, and final- ly 6-2 in the Western Mass. playoffs. One of the many reasons the Lions were so successful during the season The team gathers to get psyched up before the game. These two lines, consisting solely of seniors, gave the Lions a potent and balanced scoring threat. Ludlow’s leading scorer, captain Mike Rodri- gues, along with forwards Craig Fal- coner, Jim Chouinard, Jim Nowa- kowski, Lou Tulik, and Bob Hughes helped make the Lions a strong goal- scoring team. The Lions also gave up the second fewest goals in their divi- sion. Large credit for this is due to senior defensemen Chris Currier and Steve Picard. Jeff Steigmeyer, and Scott Duquette, two of the sea- son’s finest goalies, also contributed largely to the team’s success. Jim Nowakowski and Jim Chouinard break on net.
