Added to this year’s rally was a skit done by members of the senior class and also a cheering ses- sion with some senior boy cheer- leaders. That night the Booster Day dance, entitled AWESOME IN AU- TUMN was held. This year the stu- dents burned two dummies, one re- presenting the Agawam football team. Music for the dance was pro- vided by the very popular NOT FRAGILE, a band consisting of mem- bers from the senior class. 54 Freshmen Ortentation This year, members of the Junior class put on a program to welcome the Freshmen to Ludlow High School. A few skits were performed as well as music and singing. Also each freshmen was introduced to his “big brother and big sister” who would help him feel more comfort- able in the high school. Besides the program, a dance was held in honor of the Freshmen so they could get better acquainted with the Juniors and also have a lot of fun. ¢ ety Y inmia 55 56 As usual, the soccer team suc- ceeded in having another fine sea- son. Among the season’s leading scorers were the two seniors, Chris and Greg Kolodziey. The team’s record consisted of twelve wins, two ties, and one loss. The most important teams Lud- low had to face this season were Cathedral and West Side. The team once again made it to the Western Mass. Finals this fall, but even though a great effort and desire was put into this game, the Lions were defeated by West Side. The Varsity Soccer Team consist- ed of ten seniors, six juniors, and one sophomore. Even though the team is losing ten seniors, we know the remaining athletes will carry on the Ludlow tradition of winning. However, in the next four games the Lions came up short los- ing to Northhampton, Minnechaug, Frontier, and Athol. Knowing that they had to win the remaining games in the season to have any chance of a spot in the Superbowl, the Lions came up on top against Mohawk, and Ware, which broke Ware’s nineteen game_ winning streak. Of course, no Christmas party would be complete without a visit from Santa who brought gifts to the excited children. The party was very successful and enjoyed by everyone. ———we 65 66 Senior Christmas Banquet On December 17, 1982, the Senior Class held the annual Christmas banquet. The event was held at the Ludlow Country Club with music provided by “Flyer.” The band includes past graduates of LHS and. Ron Saloio from the senior class. The night included food, dance and door prizes. The banquet was the start of the Class of ’83’s “coming together.” The banquet was enjoyable to all who attend- ed. 67 68 Blood Mobile In February, the Student Council sponsored another very successful blood mobile. A record breaking 173 pints of blood was collected. It is especially gratifying that 122 donors gave blood for the first time.. Kathy Savoie and Kevin Hawley were the co-ordinators for this year’s blood mobile and should be congratulated for another outstanding drive. Senior Citizens Christmas Party On December 22, 1982, The Senior class held a Christmas party for the Senior Citizens of Ludlow. The mu- sic was provided by Mr. Charles Bradshaw, Jimi Circosta, Steve Bell and the LHS Chorale, under the di- rection of Mr. Gregory Wrinn. Santa Claus took time out to visit the par- ty and he handed out door prizes to the Senior Citizens. The Senior Citi- zens enjoyed the party and the Sen- ior class enjoyed the humor the older generation brought to the event. 69 70 The 1982-83 varsity basketball team finished their season 3-17. Although the statistics are not very impressive, the individual accomplishments are. Senior Chris Kolodziey received rec- ognition for scoring l000 points throughout his three years of varsity basketball. Chris is the only player in Western Mass. to receive this honor this season. Greg Kolodziey, Goncalo Conde, Serg Dias, Bob Maynard and Stan Cijka should all be commended for their hard work and dedication to the team throughout this tough year. Although the team never won an individ- ual meet, many of the team’s skiiers placed in the top 25% or better in every meet. Seniors Todd Galis and Todd Dou- ville were again very competitive skiiers. Todd Galis placed 9th overall in the standings for the league. At the State Championships, he placed 20th out of two hundred competitors at the meet. Other strong skiiers on the team were Ann Chenier, Sharron Lafreniere and Jim Szczebak. Coaches Brennan and Donnelly should be commended for their effort and support throughout the season. Assistant K. Donnely, $. Maziarz, $. Lafreniere, $. Tierney, T. Douville, W. Dargis, T. Galis, E. Szczebak, J. Szczebak, S. Bourgeois, A. Chenier, Coach M. Brennan. The Sophomore Banquet On Saturday, April 30, 1983, the Sopho- more Class held the annual Sophomore banquet. The theme of this banquet was Over the Rainbow. Music’ was provided by Ludlow High School Alumni in the band “Flyer.” This band consists of Ron Soloio, a senior at LHS. Sheryl Maziarz is the President of this very active class. Every- one had a very good time and it brought the class of ’85 closer together. 79 The Third Annual Charity dance was held in March of 1983. Although this was sponsored by the Class of 1984 and their little Brothers and Sisters, the Class of 1986, the entire school was invited to this dance. The charity that the Junior execu- tive board chose was the Birch Manor Nursing Home. The Juniors took part in the Adopt a Grandpar- ent program at this particular nurs- ing home. The music for this dance was provided by the disc jockeys provided by individuals of each class. The disc jockeys were chosen by the executive boards of each class. A lot of money was raised for this charity, again showing the enormous amount of caring and sharing that the Class of ’84 pos- sess. A Different Look Of Fashion On May 10, 1983, the Home Economics Department of LHS put on their annual fashion show. All of the refreshments were made and served by the Food classes. Thanks go to Mrs. Janice Partyka, Mrs. Miriam Patullo and Mrs. Nancy Kavka, the Home Economics teachers, Mrs. Paula Bennett and Mr. Wallace Gay, who pro- vided supervision, Mr. James Richards who handled ticket sales, Mr. Gregory Wrinn who provided the music, Mr. James Martin who designed the sets and finally, the administration. 81 82 The 1983 Varsity Baseball team exceeded all expectations this year by winning the Division Il cham- pionship. Tim Mullins was undefeat- ed as a pitcher this season while Dan Robitaille was superb in the catching spot. Coach Bill Kolodziey deserves much credit for keeping the team together in the beginning of the season because many of the players were rookies on the varsity squad. During the season, the Lions racked up IO wins and 6 losses, and they were seeded third in their di- vision, behind Drury (4-6) and Wahconah (Il-8). On June 8, Ludlow met Wahcon ah High School of Dal- ton. While Ludlow made many out- field errors, their hitting was right on target. Tim Mullins started pitch- ing this game, but he was relieved by Greg Kolodziey, who gained the win. Ludlow won 9-8. Finally, on June Il, Ludlow reached the championship round, playing against Drury High School of North Adams. It was a tough game, yet the team played well throughout and proceeded to win 2-I. The runs were scored by Greg Kolodziey and Barry Perella, who scored the winning run. The pitchers for this game were Chris Kolodziey for 6 innings, Tim Mullins for | 1 3 innings and Greg Kolodziey for | 2 3 innings. The baseball Lions of 1983 worked very hard this season and have the best record in a long time. Varsity Baseball Row |: B. Berry, T. Mullins, M. Zaranek, K. Chenaille, G. Kolodziey, $. Skowronek, C. Unfortunately, the team was hampered by injuries and the sick- ness of many players. More than once, the girls were placed in unfair positions which caused a confusion to occur in many key situations. Team leadership was provided by captains Sue Abair and Kathy For- gie. The only other seniors on the team were Lee Dahlke and Arlene Dygon. Juniors on the team included Kim Les, Donna Grimshaw and Jennifer Tower. The club kept themselves busy throughout the year with several different trips and activities. Two interesting events were, the volleyball game, where the JCL team had to win back their trophy, and the Classics Day trip to Holyoke Community College where all the JCL clubs from Western Massachu- setts gathered together and had a fun-filled day. This year’s officers were Brian Dobek, President, Kelli Rohan, treasurer, and Sue Peeples, secretary. Again this year Mr. Bradshaw was the advisor who guided the club throughout the year. Stage Direction was done by Mr. James Martin, while the Musical Direction was under the baton of the Concert Choir director, Mr. Gregory Wrinn. The title role of Dolly Levi was played by Lisa Kumor, a four year veteran of the Concert Choir. The flamboyant style of Dolly was well represented by Lisa. Senior Ron Thompson played the ruthless Horace Vandergelder, while the hat shop owner, Irene Malloy, was played by Sue Um. Patty Francisco showed her previous stage experience in the role of Minnie Fay, and Patty Mcdonald, another more experienced actress, played Ermen- garde. The two storekeepers, Cornelius and Barnaby, were played by Ron Wheel- er and Billy Wrinn, and Ambrose, the art- ist, was played by Ryan O’Hara. The time consuming job of student direction was handled by Jim Ryczek and Danette Be- lisle. Other members of the cast were Sue Belisle as Mrs. Rose, Tim Macri as Ru- dolph the head waiter, and Rodney Mar- tins as the judge. The entire cast worked extremely hard for six weeks, and as a result they put on an excellent show. The whole cast and crew of Hello Dolly can be very proud of their achievement. 101 10 i, a) ihe, tg 86 anes Oo 4 See Behind The Scenes 103 The Freshman Dance On Friday, April 29, 1983, the annual Freshman dance was held.
