One hundred years ago when Emily Dickinson wrote, “The Heart is the Capital of the Mind”, I doubt that she could have foreseen the tremendous technological advances of the twentieth century. It is a sad commentary on our times that, not only does it seem that the Mind has taken over, but we are now reaching the point of letting machines—mechanical minds—control too many of our plans and decisions, too much of our destinies. Perhaps our great scientific de- velopment, together with our burgeoning population and unprece- dented prosperity, make no other course possible. Perhaps in- creasingly computerized lives will be worth it, in the name of progress. Yet, | would wish for you, the Class of 1967, the ability to remember the dignity and worth of the individual. May you realize that the good done by each man for his neighbor can be as effective as gov- ernment programs for the unfortunate masses. May you keep the human touch from being irretrievably lost. Nourish the Heart, as well as the Mind! I wish each of you every success in the future! Sincerely, Hugh O. Macfarlane Superintendent of Schools

The Class of 1967 has been part of a proud chapter in the life of Ludlow High School. During your stay here you have helped in many ways to have the school continue on as the “School of Champions.” The memory of your fine record here, both scholasti- cally and athletically, will help carry you over all obstacles that may be in life’s path. You have carved an outstanding record at our high school. We are proud of you. Grattan H. Rooney
