THE SENIOR CLASS OF LUDLOW HIGH SCHOOL LUDLOW MASSACHUSETTS presents f Something Labor with what zeal we will Something still remains undone, Something uncompleted still IL Waits the rising of the sun. eft By the bedside, on the stair, At the threshold, near the gates, With its menace or its prayer, Undone Like a mendicant it waits; Waits, and will not go away; OW aits, and will not Le gainsaid; By the cares of yesterday Each to-day is heavier made; Till at length the Lurden seems Greater than our strength can Lear, Heavy as the weight of dreams, Pressing on us everywhere. And we stand from day to day, Like the dwarfs of times gone by, Who, as Northern legends say, On their shoulders held the sky. A rocking chair, a PT-109, a politician, a Bostonian, the New Frontier, “vigah,” an author, a father, a man very much alive—a hate, a madman, a gun, and it was no more. This man, President John F. Kennedy, was truly “our President.” His youthful energy and zest for living were magnetic. “Jack” was the epitome of our New Gener- ation. This man, immensely popular at home and abroad, seemed almost a personal friend to all Americans. His wife summarized his administration with a line from one of his favorite musical comedies: “Don’t let it be forgot, that once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment that was Camelot.” In his one brief shining term of office he said, ‘Let us begin,” and he did begin. His goal is stated in his own words: “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.” He gave all that any countr y can expect of a person—his life. In honor of this sacrifice we, the class of 1964, dedicate this edition of the Ludlow Lion to John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Let us also dedicate our lives to the ideals he repre- sented. Finally, let us allow Shakespeare to give a tribute to our fallen chief. “This was a man.” To the Class of 1964: A very important period of your life is coming to an end—a period of close supervision and guidance at home and at school. The roots of your future success are here in Ludlow—what you make of your life from now on is entirely up to you. I can see by your records that you are well prepared for the exciting new adventures which are ahead of you. I have had the pleasure of knowing you only a short time, but I feel that you are capable, you are prepared, and I expect the future to greatly respond to your good work. My sincere best wishes are extended to each of you. Kenneth A. Lant Superintendent of Schools MESSAGE TO THE CLASS OF 1964 The membership of the Class of 1964 contains within its ranks an exceptional amount of talent and ability in the field of academic, athletic, social and civic pursuits. I have appreciated over the years, the contributions which you have made of these talents to the betterment of Ludlow High School. In this final message to the Class I would ask that all of you continue to contribute in your life after graduation, as you have so ably done during your years here. I’m sure the contributions you can make to society will make for its betterment and will, in turn, bring honor to you and prestige to the High School of which you are a product. Tribute To A Teacher A pair of ebony framed glasses, a suitcoat without a button, a man without a key, a believer in the Class of °64, a teacher of noble ideals, this is William Mullins. He came to us in the 7th grade and has been a source of encouragement to us ever since. This truly dedicated teacher could be seen at all our social functions coaxing the boys to dance, and complimenting the girls on their pretty appearances. He always gave us credit when credit was due, and because he was so inter- ested in our welfare, he pointed out to us our shortcomings. Mr. Mullins, possessing the qualities and requisites of a true man and teacher, has tried to impart to us a responsibility to our parents and friends, to our school, to our country, and to God. His first coaching job was with our fresh- man team. Mr. Mullins in action. Relaxation between classes. As I sat on the beach last summer Class Fascinated by the tide and the sky; My thoughts drifted remotely To the coming year of high. P My thoughts then drifted slightly oem To the wonderment of time; And like time and the restless tide I began this little rhyme. I went back to my very first school day Way back in 52 And sort of remembered the feeling Of timidness and “growing up’’ too. I suppose all of you, dear Classmates Had the same feeling as I; So now I'll reminisce with “we” And try to bring memories and sighs, We sailed along the sea of knowledge Each year giving our all; When to our amazement and sorrow We were on double sessions, do you recall? We tried so hard to study And as our junior high days drew to a close; We were thrilled with the new high school Nearing completion for our dispose. And now, where has the time gone? I ask myself and I sigh; Since we were lowly freshmen In the glorious Ludlow High. We have had some memorable moments Our dances, parties, and games; As well as all of our studies oo numerous to list by name. We thank all of our teachers For their patience, sincerity, and drive; To help us get all our knowledge We really tried hard to survive. It is with a note of sadness Our high school days come to a close; What our future holds for us No one, but God, really knows. However, as a class we will promise To be faithful, loyal, and true; Sincere, understanding, and trustful In whatever we are chosen to do. The “New Frontier” — the time is called We all will do our share; To keep and preserve this land of ours From fear and war and care. So as the Class of sixty four Departs like all the rest; We will look back on our high school days With pride, and joy and zest. And as our parting farewell May you always say; “The Class of 1964 Was the best to pass this way.” MARYELLEN ROONEY 64 26 ALMA MATER Students all, let’s raise our voices, Singing praise of Ludlow High, Ring, oh bells of alma mater, Bells that call from far and wide. John Haluch President of Senior Class To the members of the Class of °64: I would like at this time to thank the Class of °64 for their confidence in electing me as their President for our four years at Ludlow High School. It has been a most rewarding and enjoyable experience for me to guide our class through the four most memorable years of our lives. From GREEN LEAVES TO MISTLETOE, our first activity as Freshmen, through our Senior Show and now our graduation week, our name as a class has brought great esteem both academically and athletically. The success of our school functions was primarily due to the loyalty and cooperation of the entire class. At this time, on behalf of the class of 1964, I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the faculty and.Administration of Ludlow High School for their guid- ance and instruction during the past four years. A special word of thanks to Mr. Russell, our principal, for his under- standing and, above all, his interest in our class. Thank you, bh P Halu. John S. Known for their progressiveness Kathleen Cairns as Secretary and Dwight Young, Secretary of the Treasury were also sworn into ofhce. Our Congressmen were Sandra Mosio, Dolores Goncalves, Susan Sasur, Linda Graham, Arthur Brodeur, Craig Low, and Michael Williamson. To aid us in case of disaster were the Red Cross members: Deborah Katz, Wallace Gay, Hazel Minney, Joyce St. Onge, Carol Bolduan, Sandra Marini, and Marsha Alves. There was little discussion needed to pass the President’s dance bill through Congress. So, in December, 1960, the social affair entitled “From Green Leaves to Mistletoe” was held in the dining room of the Brick House. It was a huge success help- ing to unite the country—even the foreign dignitaries had a lovely time. In April, President Haluch appealed to the Congressmen for another dance. This dance was named Festival of Flowers and, like the first, everyone was entranced with its huge success, Again in 1961 election time rolled around and President Haluch and Vice President Jeffrey Humber were given a vote of confidence. Also chosen were Secretary Carol Megizsky and Secretary of the Treasury Wallace Gay. For this term Congressmen Bruce Dzuria, Maria Mucha, Craig Low, Kath- leen Cairns, and Michael Williamson’ were elected. The Medical Care Committee included Elaine Marques, Beverly Rodrigues, Deborah Katz, Sandra Marini, Suzanne Bellisario, and Bernadette Thompson. In his special address to Congress, President Haluch re- quested action on an important dance issue, so on December 22, 1961, the social affair entitled Wonderland by Night was observed by the entire country. In order to keep the Treasury firm, a dinner dance was held on May 3, 1962, in the General Assembly Dining Hall of the Brick House. Because his political promises to carry on the burdens of Object °64 were thus far so successful, John Haluch was a third time elected along with Vice President Jeffrey, Secretary Carol Megizsky and Secretary of the Treasury Camille Koscher. The Junior Congressmen elected are as follows: Christine Czajkowski, Patricia Dvorchak, Jeanne Lebel, Marcia Mucha, Beverly Rodrigues, and Stanley Wilczynski. The Red Cross Agency elected its members as Elaine Mar- ques, Janice Belanger, Beverly Rodrigues, Suzanne Bellisario, Francis Donahue, Theresa Sarlan, Hazel Minney, and Sandra Wakem. Our government was moved from the old Brick House to the Modern House on Chapin Street. With modern conveniences and capable officials our country was headed for a prosperous year. Looking into the future President Haluch realized the necessity of another dance to build up the treasury for the June Ball. With the consent of the legislature, the dance “Tin Can Alley” was held in the Dining Hall of the Modern House on November 9, 1962. As time passed, one could see the President and his associates busying themselves with plans for the ball called “It’s Almost Tomorrow.” Finally, on June 7, 1963 the affair was held in the Ball Room of the Modern House. Queen Linda Graham and her escort King Edward Szczebak reigned that night. The citizens of this nation will forever remember those precious moments, In 1963, the last term to complete Object 64 found John Haluch, President; Jeffrey Humber, Vice President; Carol Megizsky, Secretary; and Bruce Dziura, Secretary of the Treasury. Citizens elected Kathleen Cairns, Joseph Feather- stone, Camille Koscher, Carolyn Martinelli, Dwight Young, and Beverly Rodrigues to Congress. Representatives to the Red Cross Agency were Kathleen Romanko, Margaret Mait- land, Colette Gregory, Sandra Vacarro, Suzanne Bellisario, Janice Belanger. The President, with the advice of his Cab- inet, sponsored a “Booster Day Dance,” the last dance of the Haluch Administration. On February 19 and 20th the citizens put on their Senior Show under the direction of Maryellen Rooney and Camille Koscher. As usual, a huge success was written into the books On June 5, 1964 the country attended the Junior Congress- men’s Promenade. A few days later the Senior Banquet was held. On June 8, 1964, President Haluch presided during Class Day, performing his last act as President. To conclude, on June 10, Object °64 was carried out to the letter, and the officials, legislators, and citizens of the administration of 1964 departed from the Modern House forever. 6l 62 LOCALFARTIST SELES MASTERPIEGE: Stanley Wilczynski sells masterpiece Lona Misa to Elaine San Soucie, cosmopolitan millionairess, for $1,000,000. They have abolished chemistry from the school system. Sandy Marini made impressive points on this decision. Pat Packer and Ernie Musa have traded in their old Mercs for the new Automatic Air Auto which rides about ten feet above the ground. They use Skip’s Lot, on Alden Street, owned by Skip Young, on which to race their cars. This magnificent auto, designed by Stanley Griswoc, is well taken care of by Charlie Agen, Kenny Nedeau, Ronnie Pasquini, and Tom Gagne. “When the Sparrows Learn to Fly” “A child lost in a forest, two lovers when they've said their last goodbye, couldn’t be as lonely as a nursery when the sparrows learn to fly.” These are the words of a song that Dinah Shore made popular a few years ago. These words relate the endless story of time in which children grow up and leave their parents. Yet, though we may fly far and wide we will never forget the love, the comfort, the care, and all the wonderful things that you—Mom and Dad— have unselfishly given us. Not only will we try to pattern our lives after your fine examples; but we would like you to know that whenever you need us, when the time comes, each of us in our own way will be there to help because we appreciate, honor, and love you. by NANCY S, FERREIRA 63 mopbiciis Saige parser ons = mmemeise soem seni ntaseeNT DISTRICT CHORUS MIXED CHORUS CHORALE BOYS’ CHORUS v CHORALEERS 4 GIRLS’ CHORUS CLUB Cp = — a = eS a AONATO PRO MERITO INITIATIONS 68 FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA CLUB LATIN CLUB FUTURE NURSES OF AMERICA CLUB STUDENT COUNCIL RED CROSS REPRESENTATIVES SPORTS USHERS STUDENT PATROL i Donna Lee Taylor General Chairman JUNIOR PROM Grand March and Entertainment Publicity and Invitations Decorations Tickets Refreshments Program and Rules Clean-Up It’s Almost lomorrow THE ROYAL COURT—Left to Right: Mary Ann Dietras, Woody Wilcox, Cammy Koscher, Paul Lavore, Queen Linda Graham, King Edward Szczebak, William Podoski, Beverly Rodrigues, Larry Bill and Sandra Santos, The Grand March is lead by Donna Taylor, General Chairman, and Her Escort, Allan Tremblay, and Gene Baldrate, Class Presi- dent, and Peggy Avezzie.
