During our four years in Ludlow High School, we have had much of the best com- bined with a little of the worst. However, it is better by far to remember the good and happy days spent at Ludlow High. With this in mind, we have tried to create herein a permanent record of perhaps the best four years of our lives. With this goal in mind, the editors and staffs of the senior yearbook take pride in presenting the 1958 edition of THE LUDLOW LION! S ASAHONDG Mr. Rooney Mr. Messenger To both Mr. Grattan H. Rooney and Mr. Archie H. Messenger, we extend sincere gratitude and thanks for all they have done for the students of the Ludlow High School. Mr. Messenger has been our instructor in instrumental music and the director of our school band for thirty-five years. Throughout this time, he has given hours of energetic effort and of devotion to faithful teaching, and enthusiastic leadership of the band in parades and at school functions. For him, we wish a long and successful retirement. Mr. Rooney has spent several years in our school, first as a teacher and now as Director of Driver Education and Administrative Assistant. In his quiet, steady way, he has instilled in many a young adult a respect for the laws of our Democracy, and especially for the laws of the highway. Famed for his dry and clever humor, Mr. Rooney, we hope, will continue to be, for many years yet, a pillar of our high school faculty and administration. So, to Mr. Grattan H. Rooney and Mr. Archie H. Messenger, we proudly dedicate this 1958 edition of THE LUDLOW LION h A ADMINISTRATORS Left to right: Florence M. Saulnier, George E. Russell, Grattan H. Rooney. (ACU RON Tint = ge oe 4 t A t E 2 ES e S A TALE OF THE AGES IN PROSE It.was the year 1954, the age of our foolishness, over which William Milroy ruled with an iron hand. His most loyal advisors were: Arthur Letendre, crown pretender No. 1; Jacqueline Methe, faithful scribe; and Ann Jaworsky, the citizens’ banker. The most mighty councilors at the court were Beverly Bousquet, Emilie Martin, and George Palhete. That year, the citizens were able to enjoy two important events—the Freshman Dance and the Freshman Picnic. The next year was our age of hope. That year brought a startling change with Frances Szlosek reigning as Queen. That year, Paul Bowler aspired to succeed to her high office, while Anna Van Wyck was the loyal scribe. Once again, Ann Jaworsky was elected banker. Wise ladies counseled Frances—Elaine Graveline, Emilie Martin, and Catherine Stupak. Under their great power of organization, there was held for all the citizens, a magnificent banquet, followed by another picnic. A revolution occurred the next year with Robert Warren becoming King. Robert French emerged as chief pretender, and Barbara Martowski was the new scribe. Once again, Ann Jaworsky retained her position as banker. John Chabot, Elaine Graveline, and Carol Moccio advised the four officers. With these new leaders, we held the fall Junior Dance and the June Prom. In the fourth year, the best of times, Robert Fierlit reigned, with Joseph Szlosek acting as second in command. Jane Kawecki was court scribe and Elaine Graveline, banker. Appointed to the Grand Council were Carol Moccio, Catherine Stupak, and Irene Carvalho. During this year, a Donkey Basketball game was sponsored to finance the yearbook; both ventures proved to be great successes. The seniors also enjoyed their annual ball, and they were very proud of their production of The Ludlow Lion. As these annals go to press, we are now awaiting the main events of the academic year—lvy Day, the Class Banquet, and Graduation! IN VERSE The Halls of lvy now we leave To go our separate ways, But memories that we've gathered here Will linger all our days. The years in school have taught us much, To think and act with skill, To solve our problems, trust in God, And meet the future as He wills. And as we swiftly tread Life’s path, We'll strive to do our best, To fill the lives of other folk, And ours with happy zest. Though we the future cannot see, We'll trust in God and pray; For he alone can see beyond, And he will show the way. 38 “AND THIS | PROPHESY” I—Spacia Supreme—am seeress extraordinary and astrological advisor to the great—especially the aging, ever breathless Pat Boone; to the dogless former Vice President Nixon; and to the now defunct, ex- leader Khrushchev. | gaze into my atomic-crystal ball and prophesy the following for the year 1978 and for members of the twentieth- reunioning class of the Ludlow High School. Tomorrow is forever! For each of us a star will shine brightest in the year 1978 A.D. For that century | prophesy the Millenium! | see, in 1978, that Stan Ryczek is now head of the local unem- ployment agency. His private secretary is Mary Gibb. Carol Franck has become the chief car-hop at Ernie’s, a chain of restaurants pres- ently owned by Richard Moore. Eugene LeBoeuf, a roving reporter, says that during his monthly visit to Ernie’s, he saw Richard Perkins, a one-time society play-boy, washing dishes (This report has not been confirmed). Nancy Lussier, a dance instructor, specializes in “Rnhh,” a new dance from the Moon, introduced by John Zielinski upon his return from the first interplanetary trip made in a rocket designed by Paul Bowler. John Dryjowicz is president of the ‘‘Satellite Engineering Corporation.’”” Pat Bell, a former model, is now doing a man’s job as technical writer for the engineering staff. Chief engineer is Joe Szlosek. In Hollywood, Bob Fierlit, owner and director of R. T. F. Movie Productions, has just returned from Mars, and he is busy hiring Pat Zabawa and Emilie Martin for his next space movie. On the same payroll are Jane Kawecki, the world’s most famous dress designer, and Rosemary Harackiewicz, make-up artist. The star of this film, “One-Way Ticket to Mars,” is Collin Lake, co-starred with Gladys Welch. On the planet Taurus, Dede Douville and Kay Green are breeding and training “flying horses.’ “’Skeets’’ Jablonski has placed his entire fortune on a horse named ‘Flee-foot Flip.” The winnah!! Meanwhile, in Florida, Fred Aurnhammer, manager of a race track known as ‘Freddie’s Freeway,’ is having trouble with two of his drivers, Jack Chabot and Richard Wilcox, who refuse to compete against two women drivers, Evelyn Joaquin and Carol Moccio. It has been discovered that Norman Letendre has been hired to put the girls’ racing cars out of commission. He has been arraigned in court and has as his lawyer, Robert Warren. It looks like an open and shut case. A petition to outlaw women racers is now being cir- culated, and it will be presented to the Governor of the State of Florida, our own Frances Szlosek. Barbara Edelmann is the star player in the famous “Lion” basketball league. Bernard Larose is the proud owner of a trophy for swimming, while Ken Brothers, pro at the Ludlow Country Club, uses only MINK tees. Tony Luiz and her sister, Vera, now manage a soccer team called the ‘Portuguese Anvilz.’’ The ‘Polish Hawks,’’ managed by Pat Kolano, are still champs. With Kathleen Wlodyka back in action, how can they lose? Referee Betty Smola favors the Hawks by wearing her “snazzy’’ red, white, and blue striped knee socks at all home games. Flash!! Francis Houle recently made his first million on a new record, “I Love You, My Comet Cutie, in Spite of Your Sawed-off Tail!” He’s being mobbed by a crowd of teen-agers. His bodyguards are Jeff Wilcox and George Palhete. Teddy Bojan and Joe Wersetsky have set out on a safari to the African Congo. Irene Carvalho, medical technician, is going along, armed only with a sense of humor, an uncanny knack for praying 39 with a scalpel in her hand, and a love for people that cannot be limited by the color of their skin. That famous architect, Bruce Gay, has just completed drawings for an animal museum for Elaine Graveline’s collection. Elaine, a philan- thropist, has been catering to underprivileged children for the past ten years. Tootsie Stupak, who is now happily married, is raising a company of little sailors. She attended a P. T. A. meeting last week with Dorothy Morrissette, Rosie Monette, Charlotte Reynolds, and Mary Ellen Nelson. Topic of discussion at the meeting was the still new Ludlow High School, blueprints of which were drawn by William Tucker. Anna Van Wyck is editor-in-chief of the local newspaper, ‘The Leader.’’ Ella Mae Gauthier edits a column ‘‘Advice to the Lovelorn.” Roger Gregoire is the paper’s foreign correspondent, and Kathleen O'Neill is assistant managing editor. Bill Milroy, in his usual sardonic vein, is an extremely shrewd observer, and he writes some of the most entertaining copy produced today. On the fashion front, Jean Ouellette and Erma Palheiredo are modeling the latest in plastic and synthetic clothes. Beverlyann Flagg is director of a charm school, ‘The Hour Glass.’ Her assistant is Geraldine Peczka. Barbara Martowski is giving lessons in public speaking. Nancy Berselli is teaching home economics at the University of Massachusetts, while Helen Castro is teaching languages at Mount Holyoke College. Joan Brunelle owns and operates the “Tiny Boys’ Nursery School.”’ Carol Coupal is the dietician at the new Ludlow Suburban Hospital. Her meals are the bright spots in every patient’s day. Doctor Larry Green, trying to beat the stork, has been seen dashing up the hospital steps. His nurse, Linda Huff, burning the telephone lines, is always trying to locate ‘‘Doc.’’ The new arrival, making an even dozen for his parents, is a boy—for Judy Roberts, who has been chosen the “American Mother Most Likely to Have a Nervous Breakdown This Year.’ Diane Sprecher will sing ‘’‘The Donkey Serenade” to her favorite mule (before the big game tonight between the Merry Marsmen and the Meandering Mercuries). Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth French, still honeymooning in the Bahamas. the former Dorothy Gamble, are Sandra Desnoyers, home for the week-end, is proudly displaying her synthetic diamond ring to Audrey Graham, who in turn invites Sandy to see the chest of silver-plated tinware presented to her by her fiance. Carol LaFlamme and Martha Paul are hailed as the top dance team on ice for the ‘Ice Follies of 1978,’ opening at the Boston Garden. Guest of honor at the Imperial Ball at the Astoria-Hilton will be Kathleen Saletnik. The cast of the Follies will give benefit per- formances for the Hospitalized Veterans’ Service. Judy Stuart and Margaret Tremblay have completed plans for a trip around the world in eighty minutes, sponsored by the American Geographical Society. A “bon voyage” dinner is being given in their honor by former classmates. And now, I—seeress supreme of the Atomic Age—must now don my newest creation—to resume my travel through space in my endless (to date) search for peace for you and for those who will come after you!!! “OUR FIRST TESTAMENT’ We, the class of 1958, being of supersonic judgment and possessing great outer spatial physical power, do hereby bequeath the following: Collectively to the faculty, treasured memories of the unpredictable class of ‘58; to the Juniors, the crumbling walls of our Alma Mater; to the Sophomores, the echoes of our laughter and our tears; to the Freshmen, a brighter tomorrow.
