In this world we are constantly groping for the higher ideals. The standards of our country depend up- on its teachers. Every day, students are learning about their country and the history of the world. It is to this honorable and rewarding career of teaching that Miss Olive K. Brooks and Miss Marga- ret K. Murtagh have given their time. Therefore, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to our knowledge, we, the staff, on behalf of the graduating class, proudly dedicate to them the 1957 Ludlow Lion. HE TRUE BEGINNING OF OUR END The past—all those things which are done, yet not forgotten; the smiles, laughter, joy, and tears—all are parts of yesterday's world never again to return. In the new glow of the future, we pause—some- what afraid, but yet eager—to think back on our years of high school. Whatever fields hold our individual interests, wherever our journey through time shall bring us, whenever we stop only to glance back, we will have this book of cherished memories—memories that will echo through the distant years. With the hope of ever preserving these memorable moments we, the staff, proudly offer the 1957 Ludlow Lion! Superintendent of Schools, MR. GORDON O. MERKEL. TO THE CLASS OF 1957 Your class was the last class with which I had contact as a teacher. I had looked forward to meeting you again in your senior year. The picture changed, as it will for you as you go through life. Prepare yourselves today—and tomorrow you will be ready when the opportunity comes your way. ( Gordon O. The tribunes were Barbara Daniel, Diolinda Gonsalves, and Julieta Nascimento. The first important incident was the Freshman Dance held in the Ludlow High School Auditorium. This act reached a climax with the Freshman Picnic at Forest Park. The second act saw Joseph Soares still in power with a new Vice Consul, Sandra Medalle. The new Scribe was Elizabeth Chmura; Dorothy Peczka re- mained as Chancellor. The new tribunes were Linda Brodeur, Irene Pisarczyk, and Mabel Queiros, who took their seats in the Senate. Under their leadership, a magnificent banquet, followed by a dance, was held for the citizens. Act III brought a new consul into power. Augusto DeMiranda presided over the people that year. His assistant was Sandra Medalle, while Elizabeth Chmura kept her position as Scribe and Dorothy Peczka still acted as Chancel- lor. The tribunes were Barbara Daniel, Camilla Hadro, Doris Lyndon, and Mabel Queiros. The year was climaxed by the Prom, which followed the “Ting Hao Hop,” the Junior Dance. In the final act, the citizens elected Simon Santos Consul and John McKay Vice Consul. Elizabeth Chmura and Dorothy Peczka retained their respective positions as Scribe and Chancellor. Barbara Daniel, Charles McChesney, and Mabel Queiros served as tribunes. During this most important act, the citizens held a very successful Senior Show which they called Seniors on Parade. A dance, ‘Harvest Moon,” preceded the show. One of the main incidents in this act was the writing and producing of The Ludlow Lion. Now, at the conclusion of our drama, we are awaiting the Banquet, Ivy Day, and most important of all, graduation as adult citizens of our republic. 75 “And What Js Written, Shall Be Executed” We, the class of 1957, being of sound bodies and tenacious minds, do hereby bequeath the following: collectively to the faculty, a mild sedative to help dull the pains we have given them; to the Juniors, the trials and tribulations that the Senior year brings; to the Sophomores, the wisdom that is absorbed in the hallowed walls of Ludlow High School and luck in taking some of it out; to the Freshmen, the ability to get through the four years of high school and retain their sanity. We all had fun as well as tears, We've all lived just like brothers, And these moments will echo thru the years, We seek to help many others. And God will help us with this task, He'll lead us through each day, For nothing is too much to ask If He points out the way. We've often thought that all was vain, The clouds seemed much too gray, B ut something succeeded in soothin g the strain, To brighten up the day. We seem to know that someone sees Each troubling heart and soul, And that He 1s the one to please If we would reach our goal. Our Fathers, mothers, teachers, and friends, Have faith in what we do, They show the road that never bends, And teach us to be true. Long have we fought the fight of truth, And now we go on to be Whatever we have practiced thru our youth, Yes, we'll battle life’s surging sea! D.: Dolly Lyndon has opened a baby care school for her children and those of Gus Mueller and Dot Wareham. Another classmate who went into business is Edythe Amos. She is now the proud owner of a women’s taxi stand and her drivers include such personalities as Maureen Powers, Yvonne Mendes, Mary Plankey, and Judy Allen. Linda Brodeur has started a beauty salon specializing in peroxide hair. Her models are Betty Chmura and Estelle Grzanka, of course. Dot Peczka was appointed United States Treasurer and her assistants are Loretta Savoia and Barbara Daniel. At the present time, these three are after Chester Giza, who has just made his second million. He invested most of his money in the Ludlow Savings Bank, which is operated by Catherine Lake. Sandy Medalle is the private secretary of Simon Santos, who is known the world over as the tycoon of East Street. He now owns a chain of department stores that stretch to all corners of the earth. Peggy Evans is still in the newspaper business, and she has given the best corner stand to Jon Bennet. In the sports world, Robert Koss is now manager of the Cleveland Red Sox baseball team, and his most valuable player is Vincent Harackiewicz who plays center field. Joe Soares and John Bruschi have started an all-girl soccer team with Jean Bojan and Frances Cuzzone as the featured players. Joan Wersetsky is water girl. A startling atmospheric disturbance tells that Dot Daniel has just refused to play basketball for the Boston Celtics, but Joyce Coupal has accepted the offer. Richard (Grunt) Gagne is scheduled to wrestle Gorgeous George (Jack) Cipriano, who is defending his title as the World’s Most Painful Wrestler. Cliff Schermerhorn and Eddie Bochnia are competing for the honor of being the Champion Flirt of the Universe, a title held by James Tower last year. To these boys, flirting certainly is a sport. The stars show that this class has always had some inventive spirit. To carry on the work, Annette Ondre, Charlotte Szarlan, and Barbara Smits have incorporated and in- vented an atomic valve for Chapman Valve Mfg. Company. Another famous inventor is Walter Fijal, who has just received a patent for his two-wheeled car. Betty Muszynski's pepper-up pill, called Betty's Booster for Broken Brains, has helped Bernice Syriac and Shirley Benway recover from their recent psychoses. The doctors say their phobias were a complex over having the same initials, but in reverse. Mary Fido has invented a sure- cure freckle cream and receives tons of mail from thankful females. Don St. John 1s going to model his new leak-proof space suit at the next meeting of the Inventors’ Club. In politics, Augusto DeMiranda, Ambassador to Portugal, has appointed Julie Nascimento and Diolinda Gonsalves as his assistants. Mabel Queiros recently resigned from that posi- tion. Bert Allen and Robert Abair are dueling over the A P Stores. Each insists that he is the legal owner. Juliette Ferreira and Elizabeth Szczebak are still doing their rhumba in the Stork Club, where Stan Halgas and Earl Shepard are the featured musicians. Norma Gauthier is scheduled to open there for her singing debut. Diana Sorcinelli has worked her way up to the position of director of the Ziegfeld Follies of 1977. er star is Sam Castanera, the Can-Can dancer par excellence. Robert Syriac, Ken Courtney, and Edward Jaciow are in the chorus line and Ed Wikar is directing the orchestra. In TV Ann Pohner has been asked to do a show called Lady Cheyenne. Gail Green is to be her sidekick. John McKay and Manuel Teixeira have drawn the blueprints for Florence Ashwell’s elementary school. Camilla Hadro is now teaching Latin and French to the Martians. Pat Nocrasz has agreed to teach C.C.D. classes and is still having trouble with Robert Sepiol, who hasn't yet graduated. Charlie McChesney has built a super highway from Earth to Jupiter. When Jack Jasnocha, Chester Kareta, Richard Gow, were cruising on the highway, they lost Ed Nowak, who is now floating in space. Carol Webster, Judy Langevin, Geneva Willard, and Jennie Yoszinski were named “Counter Girls of the Year’ by Woolworth Co. Dot Chenaille was voted “Miss Telephone Operator” by her cohorts. Richard Paul, the teen-age girls’ idol, made a record, “How Much Is That Bloodhound in the Window,” which has already hit the billion mark. In Hollywood, Andy Lopata has made the grade—he married Zsa Zsa Grable. Helen Wilczynski, whose stage name is Piper Porry, will star in a movie based on Esabel Palheiredo’s book, “Yo Rinny.” Having bought 1000 of Tab Hunter's record, “Young Love,” Irene Pisarczyk has won his hand in marriage. The heavens are now calm; the thunders no longer roll; the stars recede as dim light appears in the east; Artemidorus is tired; his prophecy is done! 82 Understudying Ann Sothern = career an 83 Monsanto, here they come!
