Let the high ideals exemplified by your school point the way for you through life. That success and happiness may attend you in the years ahead is my very sincere wish for all of you, PAUL R. BAIRD Menciypalf Vlesgage The Class of 1952 goes down in the annals of Ludlow High School asa distinguished class academically. Honors won scholastically seem to shine a bit more brightly for your group than for many of the other groups which have preceded youe At the same time, the Class of 1952 seems to have caught the spirit of those who have gone before and have translated their study, activities, and wrk at Ludlow High School into a democratic way of living together. It is the latter which has come to mean so much to those of us who have been here many years and which we hope those classes which follow you will carry on. Loyalty, pride, and interest in your school and sincerity among your classmates of '52 are at a high peak as you go forth on life's way. May the memories of all of this be as deep and significant in the next decade or two or three, as your children or their children search in the 1952 LUDLOW LION to find what has gone before. It is my earnest hope that the goals attained and the happy hours spent at Ludlow High School be only a prelude to greater achievement for each of you in the years to come. Captain’s Journal In September of 1948, the Pirate Ship H.M.S, LUDLOW LION left port on a four - year raid on the seas of Knowledge. For a while, the seas were rough and stormy, but as time went on, the Crew of 1952 became adjusted to pirate life. During the first year, our ship was captained by Gerald Kosecki, He was assisted by First Mate Rodney Wilson, Ship's Secretary Janet Taylor, and Keeper of the Booty Rose Adao, The Crew's first event was the FreshmanFrolic , an afternoon dance, Later that year, we sailed upthe Connecticut and dropped anchor at King Philip's Stockade, where we had a unique picnic, So ended the first lap of our cruise, The big event the next year was the Annual Banquet, This was highly successful because of the capable leadership of Captain Rose Adao, First Mate Judith Miles, Ship's Secretary Janet Taylor, and Keeper of the Booty Eleanor Wright. In June of the second year of our cruise, we pirates raided Stanley Park for another picnic, Half of our voyage was now completed, and the seas had become much more peaceful, This year the Ship of ‘52 was piloted by Robert Mongeon, and he was assisted by Edward Hadro, First Mate; Janet Taylor, Ship's Secretary; and Margaret Pecedonio, Keeperof the Booty. We held our first evening dance, THE HOLLY - DAY - HOP, inthe Ship's Auditorium, The year was climaxed by a short stop at Treasure Island. This long - awaited ball was a night never to be forgotten by the Buccaneers and their Pirate Lasses, Now the H.M.S. LUDLOW LION was sailing fullspeed ahead. On the last lap of our cruise, our Pirate Queen and Captain was Margaret Pecedonio; First Mate was Edward Hadro; Ship's Secretary was Shirley Surprenant; and Keeper of the Booty was Elizabeth Trombly. The “Prom Review of '52 brought back memories of our unforgettable “Treasure Island, The Pirate Crew of ‘52 presented Kaptain Kidd's Kapers, “ which was a whaling success, After Easter, our ship dropped anchor and held its final dance of the cruise. In June, anchored in our home port of Ludlow (latitude 42° 10 N, and longitude oe 25% W.) we anticipate our homecoming ball - the Prom of 1952 - Ivy Day exercises, Crew Night, The Captain's Dinner, and finally, Commencement Ceremonies, On Commencement Night, the Admiralty will make its customary awards to the ship's officers and crew for a successful voyage and a mission well acomplished, Tee PE PLY ATLL AROOTLBIO I Intermission at the G, O, Ball Right: Tell it to the Judge! S. LUDLOW LION, set sail on a memory cruise, As we boarded the ship, we were greeted by David Bennet, the modern Kaptain Kidd, Our boat is navigated by Louis Ryczek, who broke many a record at the Indianapolis Speedway. His mechanic is Stanley Skutnik, who also helps on board ship. Elzear Duquette, our professional seaman, makes the landlubbers envious, After being awakened by Robert Evans, the ship's bugler, the whole crew began its day’s work. Rene Kalita is working busily over the maps for the voyage, while his companion, Gerald Kosecki, is designing a new installment of his comic strip - GERRY AND THE PIRATES, Jean Millane is the editor of their newspaper, THE PIRATE NEWS, and Rose Adao writes an Advice to the Lovelorn column for that publication, Also in the literary field is Edward Hadro, who because of his ready wit and burning genius, has become Poet Laureate of the ship. Leo Belisle, right on the ball, is always at the scene of the crime or excitement with his little camera, David Gibb assists in showing his pictures before the Pirate Court. What's this, a ladder and bucketsof paint! Diane Henry, Joan Langevin, Dolores Silva, and Rosemary Laughran are aiming to make our boat the most fashionable pirate ship afloat, Donald Makarewicz is still the Lord High Executioner of the crew. He is assisted by Robert Gibb, whose love for explosions has made him the head of the firing squad. Franklin Charron, Robert Mongeon, Antonio Pires, and Rodney Wilson, with their football experience, lead all boarding parties of pirate raids, Joseph Rozkuszka, following in the footsteps of his brother, is a deep sea diver, He attacks enemy ships from the bottom! Janice Giacomelli and Ann Goodreau are now famous Powers Models and pose in the most stylish pirate attire, Henry Casagrande never changes and is still the Casanova of the fleet, with James Saloio running a close second, sweeping the ladies off their feet with his charm, Another Romeo, Curtis Gendreau, is still catching the lady pirates’ eyes with his dancing techniques, Alice Margosian and Alice Henriques, two very good friends, are batting their brains out trying to teach the apprentice seamen stenography, William Cabral, munching on his famous bubble gum, is the “bouncer” of the crew. Beware, if you can't Swim!! Oh, there's William Donaldson behind the pile of books! He's our class wise man and is never satisfied that he knows enough, Chow!!! Our rations are served by waiter Paul White, and Frank Nowak has graciously supplied us with the food for the trip. Three cheers for Doris Duffany and Julia Adamezyk, our chief cooks!! Next we see Helen Zabawa and Sizaltina Fernandes, the ship's most efficient nurses, who have patented their new discovery for indigestion, They‘re making millions - and legally, too!! Dorothy Benoit, Jeanette Berkowicz, and Barbara Mendes are all looking very radiant, They serve as a hospitality committee for all homesick pirates, Alexander Scharf, ship's interpreter, is a great asset as ship's linguist, Louis Fidalgo, ship's bookkeeper, is very busily working over his books, He's not getting much work done though - Barbara Blanchette and Lorraine Morin are his most efficient secretaries, Jack Andre, first bridegroom of the class - passes out cigars - he’s the proud GRANDFATHER of QUINTUPLETS! Helen Kusek and Marion Kogut are both in business for themselves. Helen owns a million - dollar china business, and Marion, always interested in motors, has contracted to supply the fuel for our cruise. Barbara McDonnell, Julia Makowicz, and Adele Dryjowicz keep the crew in condition by their physical education classes, Robert White has done all the exercises faithfully and has grown to a height of SEVEN feet! ! We finally relax for a while and are entertained by our most talented pirates, The production stars Doris Nicol and Judith Miles, who have both made musical fame stateside with their glockenspiels . Costumes are by Elizabeth Trombly; and Mary Lopes and Mary Queiros, world famous hair stylists and make - up artists, add their talents to the cast, Marion Janas, who co - stars on the Bob Slope Show , is a definite attraction on the program, Someone's missing!! Philomena and Antonio Bernardo, and Alice Leite and John Teixeira forgot to get back aboard when we stopped a while at Portugal, They're still dancing! Since women have dominated our crew - except Kaptain Kidd and the athletic pirates - we stop - as we come to the end of our memory cruise - to thank Margaret Pecedonio and Janet Taylor, who have, at various time, helped the Crew of 1952 along our course through troubled or rippling tides, RATULATION. wea ty Left: Doris dancing at NASC Ball in Wellesley Right: Seven hands in a velvet glove!
