He attended the Ludlow elementary schools, Milton Street School, Indian Orchard, Acushnet Avenue School in Springfield, and finally the Ludlow High School. After enlisting in the United States Navy, he was sent to the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois for his _ basic training. From there, he was sent to Memphis, Tennessee, where he became a seaman, second class. At present, Arthur is awaiting ship assignment in San Francisco, California. We raise the curtain and produce the cast, And see the review of these four years past. Successful or not, they’ll be a part Of mem’ries dear to each one’s heart. | Thru coming years, he will wish himself there, When he was blessed with no major care. And then from the storehouse of his mind, He’ll live again those days so kind. Act one, how slowly the hours passed! We hoped each class to be ended fast. We longed to be leaving, but now we know As years move on, days quickly go. Act two, rememb’ring the chances we had And honors we lost makes us feel quite sad, But doing the best we could each day, We tried to hurry that year away. Act three, we sorrowed to be so near The scene preceding the Senior year. As days came and went, friend wished with friend The clock to stop and joys never end. Act four, the climax of this great play, And soon each person would be on his way And in the last months he knew by heart His days of manhood now would start. The curtain falls and old friends may part, ¢ But always uppermost in the heart Will be the remembrance of the past, When we were featured in such a cast. { School days have gone but the years to come Will bring to each new achievements and fun. Last fall, the Student Council took charge of class elections and elections of the Massachusetts ‘‘Good Govern- ment Day” representatives. Student Council members also ushered during Open Night when parents of pupils visited the school. The holiday spirit came to the school when the Council decorated each homeroom door with Christmas greens and red ribbon. Then in January, this group conducted the most successful March of Dimes campaign ever held in this school. Before the end of the year, the Council expects to sponsor the annual G. O. Ball and the second annual Cancer Drive. STUDENT COUNCIL SENIOR VARIETY SHOW Sponsored by the Class of 1948 Ludlow High School Auditorium 8:00 P. M. January 28-29, 1948 l1 IT’S DAWN AGAIN aie _. SONGSTERS The music for the Ludlow High School show is supplied by five different musical groups. This year’s musical highlight is the Choralettes, six girls who can be heard trilling their songs two afternoons a week. Also being introduced to the school is a mixed glee club and a double boys quartet. These groups are being molded slowly, but hopes are already high. The glee club now has twenty-six members most of whom are fresh- men, but it is expected that more students will become interested when the group becomes better known. These three organizations are directed by Mr. Merrill Cook, who hopes to send his groups to the New England Music Festival. THE CAST IN RETROSPECT Four years ago, the Cast of 1948 was organized. Inexperience at the beginning of a high school theatrical career brought students closer together. Their fear of having an unsuccessful company soon vanished when the principal players were elected for their first public appearance. They were President, John Soares; Vice-president, Mitchell Duda; Secre- tary, Ruth McLean; Treasurer, Irene Fioravanti. Working together, the cast held a successful Valentine Party on the afternoon of February 13, 1945. Returning to the stage in their sophomore year, the troupe was led by an able, more experienced cast. The leading roles were again won by Presi- dent, John Soares; Vice-President, Joan Cormack; Secretary, Ruth McLean; Treasurer, Clarice Suprenant. These students, elected by the members of the cast, starred in the production of another Valentine Party and the first evening dance of the Cast of ’48. As Juniors, the cast produced, on October 25, ““The Pumpkin Whirl’ under the direction of Co-Chairmen Margaret Ferrier and Blanche Dobbie. Then, on June 6, 1947, they staged the annual Junior Promenade, which was given in honor of the departing senior company. The junior year’s starring players were President, Joseph Lisak; Vice-President, Juliette Palhete; Secretary, Ruth McLean; Treasurer, Lorraine Magiera. Upon their fourth and last return to the stage, the troupe of the Class of 48 was to enact its greatest productions. Elected to head the cast in these final productions were President, John Soares; Vice-President, Robert Butters; Secretary, Ruth McLean; Treasurer, Joan Cormack. The first venture was the Senior Dance given on October 23, under the capable direction of Francis Chenaille. Next, Margaret Ferrier, Editor-in-Chief of the Review, chose and assigned parts to her cast of writers, who planned to present their work at the end of the school year — The 1948 Review. In January, Mary. Moraes and Irene F ioravanti, General Chairmen of the “Senior Variety Show’, rapidly gathered their cast and produced the biggest hit of the troupe’s short and successful career. Before the troupe disbands this June, its Class Banquet, Class Night, and Ivy Day Ceremony will have been presented. The Junior Promenade will be given to honor these successful ventures launched by the Cast of 48. This closing hit is attended by many who come to see these fortunate and happy seniors on the eve of the greatest production — GRADUATION. HISTORY OF THE CAST OF 1949 The Cast of ’49 chose the following officers to represent them in their Freshman year: President Charles Saloio; Vice- President, Richard Gauthier; Secretary, Irene Kochanek; Treasurer, Cynthia Easson. Their initial high school theatrical event was an afternoon party which was both a social and financial success. Beginning their Sophomore year, the class of ’49 this time elected: President, Manuel Moutinho; Vice-President, Walter Gajewski; Secretary, Edith Ellison; Treasurer, Cynthia Easson. Again their most outstanding activities were parties held during October and December, respectively. As Juniors, election day was even a more important one for the Cast of ’49. This was because the Junior Year brought forth many problems, the main one being the annual promenade. So again Cynthia Easson was elected for the third consecutive time to the office of Treasurer, with the other leaders being President, Chester Krawczyk; Vice-President, Liza Tranquilli; Secretary, Odette Sousa. In addition to their plans concerning Pe ‘‘Prom’’, the Junior Troupe looks forward to their first successful night ance. Room 204 Room 209 Room 211 Cast of 1950 President -. HISTORY OF THE CAST OF 1950 _ A great deal of interest was taken in the elections of the Cast of 1950 in their Freshman year, and the results were: President, Joseph Teixeira; Vice-President, Charles Patullo; Secretary, Joan Bennett; Treasurer, William Nicoll. Last year a very colorful and entertaining party was held with both the Freshman and the invited Sophomores benefiting. As Sophomores, Anne Melberg was elected President; Jean Pidgeon, Vice-President; Joan Bennett, Secretary; William Nicoll, Treasurer. Plans to have a party in November were made, and the Cast deemed it a huge success. HISTORY OF THE CAST OF 1951 When the Cast of 1951 held their first high school election, a great deal of enthusiastic campaigning and political rivalry colored the scene. The results were: President, John Lazarz; Vice-President, Sam Sousa; Secre- tary, Betty Ann Tourville; Treasurer, Norma LaFlamme. To date, statistics reveal that the 1951 company has staged a traditional but most entertaining afternoon party. sos mingehaeenaeantennteissicopconnncnins maniacs Room 113 Room 117 LUDLOW MANUFACTURING SALES CO.
