Here the girls who are interested in .nusic are given the opportunity to learn to sing. read notes, dee velop their voices, and at the same time have an enjoyable time doing it. Any girl may join the club and at various times in the year the girls them- selves are given the chance to di' rect the group. which often sings in two and three part harmony. Girls' eague The Girls' League is the larg- est group in school to which every girl belongs. This organi- zation is under the supervision of Miss Dorothy Fitch. The girls are given a chance to get acquainted with one another in the fall at an all-girl mixer put on by the Girls' League. This year the Scottville Girls' League officers were invited to one of the meetings and a discussion was held on the different fads their school has. The girls at l-.H.S. adopted one. which was wearing our orange and.black school colors on days when we had basketball games. The group also sponsored several af- ter-game dances and doughnut sales. ln the Spring all the girls participated in and helped to put on the annual lVlother's atin lub Tea. The popular blackout shows together with fascinating formations on the lighted field proved to be the high- light of the season's half-time shows. The Ludington High School Band attempted something quite new and different this year by introducing a Band Pageant held at Oriole Field. The band performed several of their half-time shows used during the foot- ball season as the majorettes put on a superb demonstration of twirling. The newly formed Junior High School Band performed also. The members of the faculty attended as guests and were served refreshments. Dancing was enjoyed by the students. The District Solo and Ensemble Festival was held in Cadillac and Ludington received a total of twenty-six firsts. The students then went on to State Contests at Ann Arbor to compete and return home with four firsts. The band attended the Cadillac Festival on May 4 where they were judged on playing and marching ability and participated with numerous other bands in a combined concert. They also attended the Holland Tulip Fes- tival on May 14 and were judged on marching ability and a half-time show before a large audience. The effect created by the beautiful dresses of the girls was that of a lawn party some balmy evening. As a person entered the gym, through a lovely rose arbor, the most impressive sight was the portico of a huge Southern mansion. The porch was furnished with small tables and lawn chairs, which were the setting for many pictures. A beautiful brook trickled over rocks and into a pool on the west end of the gym. Small goldfish swam around as many of the couples made wishes on the coins they threw into the pool. The ceiling was, by far, the most unique of the decorations. Instead of the usual streamers of some sort, the ceiling was entirely composed of magnolia branches. Beautiful pink and white flower? were tied to the feathery limbs which created an outdoor effect.
