THE QUODDY LIGHT CLASS HISTORY In the fall of the year of 1920 some eighty five or ninety boys and girls ven tured forth from their various haunts to begin a most perilous and fearful Journey the exploration of the myster 1es of Lubec High School That September morning was far from being a pleasant one It rained dis mally Our hearts seemed filled with vague fears and doubts and we waited impatiently for the bells to rlng When the doors were opened we rushed in no1s1ly much to the disgust of the se date upper classmen We soon found ourselves in the as sembly hall scrambling for a seat some Where 1n the crowd Finally the din subslded and our teachers were 1ntro Mr Hopkins our principal proved to be very pleasant and congenial Our sub master was Mr Blalsdell a tall stern lookmg 1nd1v1dual who really had the knack of making us poor freshmen a fraid of h1m Miss Katherine Clark Miss Bradford Miss Nash and M Chick were the other members of the faculty Gradually We established ourselves as a class but we didn t honestly feel at home until after the Freshman recep tion Not until then d1d it dawn upon our minds how greatly we were liked and seeing how much the rest of the school put themselves out to give us a good time we Just couldn t help be1ng grateful to them We held class meet1ngs electmg our officers with Clara Sheldon as president We also chose a suitable motto and our class colors Time passed serenely until the first set of examinations were taken They were severe ones so lt seemed then andafew of our classmates failed to come back to take up the new terms Work How quickly the first Vear drifted by and the following vacation found us looking forward to our sophomore year We found numerous changes Mr Blaisdell returned as principal assisted by Mr Donovan sub master Miss Den n1s instructed in French and Latin M Noyes in Science and Mathematics MISS Wiggin in Domestic Sclence while Miss Hamlin ruled supreme 1n the Commer cial department Class officers were elected with Montford Peabody in the president s chair Freshman reception whlch affair was well enjoyed and the Sophomore hop This was rather dlsappointing as the weather was unpleasant and only a small crowd attended Time waits for nothing and when well spent it passes swiftly Final exams were taken and when our year s work was completed we left High School with the Jolly smiles of Juniors already on our faces There were only forty nine of us when school reopened 1n the fall of 22 We welcomed Mr Donovan as our pr1nc1 pal He with Mr Anderson Mr Gas tonguay M1ss Nelson M1ss Damon and Miss Wlggln comprlsed one of the most helpful and cooperative teach1ng staffs we have ever had The crowning events of our Junior year were the Jumor Exhibition and the Prom g1ven by us to the graduating C53 , . . i . . , , I . . , . . . . , . . . , ' . THE QUODDY LIGHT SALUTATORY Once more dear fr1ends you have met to wltness the graduatwn GXGTCISGS of a Sen1or Class ot Lubec Hlgh School Thls t1me lt IS the class of 1924 a class made up of those boys and g1rls who lt seems to you such a short t1me ago nrst entered school We are sure that you have watched the progress of our class wlth 1nterest and certalnly that lnterest has been made manlfest these last few years It 1S 1ndeed a pleasure to welcome you here to nlght Parents and Relat1ves To you we owe all the glory of to night It 1S through your efforts that we have been able to go through H1gh School and graduate thus passing the first mllestone ln L1fe Most surely your presence above all others 1S enJoyed by us We smcerely hope that you may find your unceasmg efforts rewarded by our success Superlntendent and School Board It 1S our pr1v1lege to welcome you here also We gratefully apprec1ate your help and lnterest It IS through your k1nd HSSIS tance that we have had better fac1l1t1es lor school hte We acknowledge that you have always grven us the best books the best teachers and the best pr1v1leges that It was ln your power to g1V8 Undergraduates We welcome you gladly and regret that this 1S the last tlme that we as a body w1ll be wlth you We have spent many happy days 1n your presence To-n1ght we atta1n that oal to wh1ch both we and you have een str1v1ng May you have as much success on the rest of your Journey as we have had on the whole of our Jour ney Advancement In the whole world how many souls are there Wh1Ch do not long for advancement 'P Does not one ln h1s every move seek to go a step far ther ahead '7 Yes It IS so Perhaps there are some few who are content to remain as they are but there are many many more who prefer to go on and on Surely no one has the des1re to take a step backward Slnce the beglnnlng of tune each cen tury has presented advancement over the preced1ng century Each century has presented more advanced m1nds and these 'runds have sought more advanceu envlronrxents The desires of these m1nds have resulted n on' lnventlons and d1SCOV61'1eS The Jnventions and d1scover1es have resulted 1n all modern convenlences The convemences 1n th1S century are changed and developed 1n the next century all by the same de s1re advancement Out of a World of examples I would choose the one nearest our thoughts th1s evenlng that of our class and 1tS gradu t1on from High School It IS po s bly our greatest step forward so far ln l1fe We have been str1v1ng for th1s durmg many years and our en deavors are now cro ned wlth success It 13 our first step but w1th your best wlshes we wlll always contlnue to ad vance Our High School educatlon has great ly prepared us to go on Accordlng to the course we have taken the past four years we may enter any Normal School Busmess College or State College It IS poss1ble Wlth what knowledge we have acqulred for us to obta1n some pos1t1ons w1thout more educatlon Our studles have been planned by people of exper lence and they are what these people have found to be necessary for after H1gh School l1fe We are prepared 1n as much as a Hlgh School educatlon may prepare us to enter the new l1fe opening to us It 1S the des1re of every member of the class of 1924 to advance to whatever helghts he may Wlnmfred V Grlflin C49 1 . , ., , ' . a . , . , , .
