THE QUODDY LIGHT the town hall has been repaired and palnt ed and the town fathers deemed it wlse to keep basketball out Baseball therefore only remains for us and we feel confident that the auspicious opemng of the season foretold our success in this branch of ath letlcs Most of the time since pract1ce be gan we have had men enougn out to make up two teams and that helps much rn any Athletics The regulars must have oppo nents and the subs must have a chance to Our first game was with Mach1as High at Machras and we came horne uctorrous score 12 to 8 Ou fielding was rather weak but we made up fr r ll 1n batt1ng Onr second game was w1th E xstport High at Eastpoxt, agam winning oxex our opp.. nents by a score of 13 to 7 Thls garne showed some imp ovement and a chance for mu h more On May 25 we arranged a game with Dennysvllle High at Dennysvllle but the team we were defeated bv was not a High School team On june first we gave them a return game at Lubec where we defeated them by a score of 14 to 8 The score at Dennysulli was 9 to 8 Atlglettrs ATHLETICS have not been as promlnent th1s vear as 1n the past but the reason has not been a lack of lnterest on the part of the school The pupils are very much interested IH A'hlet1cs although some do forget now and then that studies come first We have vevy few nearby towns that support athletics m Hlgh School and we have rather poor playlng playlng facilities for any branch of the game Last fall we found some good football mater 1al ln the classes and after a few weeks practice were worthy of any antagonist ln the county but none could be found For some reason no football team Our basketball season was supported by neighboring schools v as minus because our o e plate to play On Saturday June 15 Machlas was de feated on our home grounds ln a six tn ning game played IH mud and water ow ing to the inclement weather Score 4 to 0 At the time of going to press we have one game 'o play wrth Eastport We have won four of the five games played and we feel that we have upheld the honor of L H S on the diamond In the gam s played the following boys played in the posmons listed Pitcher Pike Catcher Mulholland 85 Nenll Flrst Base Ramsdell Sec Base Cook Z vicker 8: McBr1de Third Base Ne1ll O Donnell 85 Geagan Right Field Gray 8: O Donnell Center Field Morgan Left Fleld Nfabee Gray 84 Ramey In 1 OY'lCll1SlOIl may We ask that all keep in mind that the first requisl e for an ath letrc team is for the pupils to keep their rank above passing grade and that a sec ond reqursrte is support by school and townspeople in attendance 'tt games and 1n a financial way V7 O l , . l . .
