THE QUODDY LIGHT nrnls DEATH OF J RED ROBBINS From the ranks of the boys who have of fered the1r servxces for thelr country an other Fred Robbnns popular both tn the schoolroom and on the athletxc field has W1ll1ngly glven his hte It IQ with a feel mg of deep and smcere esteem that we hold the memory of our schoolmate PATRIOTIC EVENTS The Athlet1c commlttee of Lubec High School rs entitled to be enrolled among those who are ready to sacrrfice sornethmg for the prrvrlege of be1ngAmer1cans Ac c rdmg to a vote of the school the money that was xntended to go mtc, football equxp ment for the school eleven was devoted to ond loan Durrng the past vear a Jumor Red Cross has been organnzed ln our school w1th a total of 77 members Lubec Hlgh School has been placed on the hs' of those schools hav1ng a 100 per cent standard ln the sale of Thrift and War Savmgs Stamps Thursday evemng February 21 1918 an 1 lustrated lecture was given 1n the As sembly Room by Dr E V Sulllvan of St Stephen N B dellneatmg his actual ex perlences ln the trenches and 1n the med1 cal corps at the French front durrng the past two years About srxty mterestmg slldes were shown and Dr Sullrvan s des crlptxon of the localmes prctured made C103 them seem very real1st1c After the le t ure the audience was allowed to lnspect many xnterestmg curtos and souvenirs of the war On Fen 22 a large number of puplls and parents were present at a patr1ot1c gatherlng at the Hugh Sceool when splendid 10 foot flag was run to the mast head by the few survwmg members of the G A R andaserv1ce flag with 28 blue and two gold stars was displayed attest mg to the patrtotxsm of the sons of l ubec I-hgh The gold stars represent the two who have grven thexr l1ves for fhexr coun try LEWIS Card and Fred Robbms In accordance wxth the plans of the Na tronal Four 'Vlmute Men the schools have been havmg Four Mlnute speeches The first of these entertamrnents was held on L1bCTfV Day The speakers were Frank Pxke Jotham Reynolds Thomas Flckett Livingstone Ptne Ray Wtlcox and George Gray The speeches were well prepared and showed ln a forceful manner the ne cess1ty of buymg War Savings Stamps Thomas Frckett was chosen as Flrst Four M1nute Man of Lubec Hlgh School A xerv interesting dxalogue explalnxng the L1bertv Bond was g1ven by Burdell Tre cartm and Francls Geagan After the pro gram there was a parade of automobiles through the streets of Lubec to help 'nake the Third Loan a success The second of the Four Mxnute speeches was held on May 13 The speakers were Agnes McBr1de Edythe Porter Ella God EE -'L T ' ' . 1: - Q ' . 5 1 n . w u , - ' ' ' v , . . . u .
