THE QUODDY LIGHT Q Ii tl u r x u l s contmued from pngo3 The town voted at its annual town meet ing 1n 1914 to purchase a sultable lot and to erect a bulldlng adapted to the growlng needs of our students from every part of the town who were becomlng more in terested and ambltxous each year to get thas higher educatlon and a generous sum of money was approprlated therefor The next step was a wxse choxce of a commlttee conslstmg of three of our most enterprxs mg and energetlc cxtxzens Robert I Pea cock Chas Wlnton and E M Lawrence to carry out the rdeas of the people Th1scomm1ttee called upon the arch1 ficauons and from those presented select ed that of Arthur Stanley of Bar Harbor He gave up the contract before the work had advanced to anv great extent It was then taken over by 'VIr W A Warnock of Eastport who deserves much credrt for the sk1llful manner rn whlch he completed the work Dnrruphnn ni Qluilhmg Th1s butldmg measures 100x70 It IS buxlt of wood ln the colomal style pamted yellow wtth white trnnmmgs The mam entrances faces the south, a back entrance faces the north The xnterxor 15 planned throughout wlth a vlew to securmg the best posslble sam tary condntxons Every room IS heated by steam lxghted by electrxclty and well supplxed wrth vent1lators We trust that C5 a complete telephone system, connectmg each room wzth the Pr1nc1pal's office wlll be xnstalled ln the near future as well as fire alarm bells and gongs ln the corrtdors Cypress 15 used for fimshlng wxth hard wood floors m all the rooms on the two floors and cement ln the basement The basement contains a phvsical labor atory a domestic sc1ence room two play rooms, two lavatornes bes1des the coal and boller rooms On the first floor four large class rooms the Prmclpals office and a prxvate lavatory, open out of a long and SDHCIOUS corridor On the second floor are the assembly room commercxal and recltatxon rooms and llbrary separated by a corrldor Unlt Arrangzmznl ni Saunas The four rooms are so arranged that each accommodates one class In usmng thxs un1t system the classes enter thexr home rooms for the uay s work the teach ers move from room to room We can see what an dvantage thls lS over recltmg ev ery lesson 1n a dlfferent room Incldents occuring on the way to the other rooms are avoxded and there IS much less mose ment, hence less noxse and break tn study work Siluhznls :nh Gear ers Our school year began with 141 stu dents Some have dropped during the year The facultv conszsts of five teach ers and a muslc teacher Th1s commg year the School Board plan to add a do mestxc scxence teacher to the force I .
