Crunchy Snow Brings Reality Of Winter lnvigorated by resolutions for the new year, Westerners eagerly greeted winter. Empty lockers and book-laden students were a common sight as semester exams became the year's first challenge. Loyal boosters braved winter's nippiness to till Chapman gym with resounding cheers for the Wes- terner basketball team. Crunching snow and crackling fires added a ro- mantic note to the special day as couples appeared more numerous when Valentine's Day neared. Learning, love, and enjoyment of life formed a scrapbook of memories for Westerners who would later speak of the winter of '70, Smiles and grins mirrored on the crowd's faces when basketball rooters chatted and relaxed during halftime. l fi tl 4. Q i Q, at v if .l l 3 E 3 Playing Cupid became a special sport on Valentine's Day as Gary Bockman took advantage of passing targets, Larry Stockton and Evy Thurman.

When the eventful 60's came to an end, Kirk Rampy, Brenda Woolf, Benny Bryant, Dan Richardson, and Carol Holidays Stimulate Kelly found time to reflect on further moon trips the 70's Frolic, Festivities Holiday vacations prompted Westerners to cele- brate in festive affairs. Family dinners and moments of silent thanks provided the setting for Thanksgiving feasts. Sights of mistletoe, carolers, and luminous Christmas trees spun the Yuletide season into full swing. Abruptly, 1969 seemed to slip away. Yet, Westerners foresaw the beginning of a new year, the soaring 197O's, as a fresh start. Thanksgiving dinner resulted in extended lunch lines in the cafeteria. Nevertheless, James Massey managed to enjoy a hurried, but hearty, lunch.

Students with books could be found in strange places during dead week as Debbie Parker, junior, and Mike Duran, senior found there there was no time to lose in studying for mid-semester exams. Undaunted by winter's first snowfall, Barbara Mclnroe, smiles as they prepared for a zippy start down a steep hill Brady Perkins, Phil Hisey, and Debra Capshaw were all in Mackenzie State Park.
