Once a Westerner, always a Westerner, a popular saying of Lubbock High stu- dents, teachers and administrators, is exemplified by Mr. Knox Williams, LHS vice- principal: Mr. Howard Price, Coronado principal and former LHS student adminis- tratorp and Mr. Max O'Banion, CHS vice-principal and former LHS administrator as they maintain the inter-city high schools' truce at the Lubbock-Coronado basketball game. The principals commented on the Sportsmanship, then victory, that was displayed. l Progress Affracfs Involvement, Unity Modern technology wipes them clean! Jimmy Suarez, sophomore, stops to comment to Mr. Nathaniel Yates, maintenance man, that cleaning erasers with the electric machine is an improvement over the old-fashioned wall- beating method.

Former LHS head coach, J. G. Keyes, recalls Westerner tra- ditions as he discusses the heritage from 1939 with Dave Daniels, WESTERNER sports writer. Mr. Keyes was head coach in 1939 when LHS won a state football champion- ship. Involving themselves in local affairs, such as the United Fund Drive, are the Five Flames representing each high school in Lubbock. Trophies awarded for 100 percent par- ticipation are displayed by June Long, Dunbar: Karen Cor- ley, Estacado: Mr. E. C. Leslie, coordinator of high schools: Robin Martin, Coronado, Kris Tidmore Monterey: and Mitzi Shipp, Lubbock High.
