Mod jewelry, exotic hair styles, and contrasting skirt lengths characterize this new modern era of the 70's. Lori Cooper and Mrs. Louise Haw- kins demonstrate the changing of times with their varying styles. ln this age of pushbuttons, com- puter work is becoming a prime op- portunity. Dic Marxen of Texas Tech, realizing the need for an awareness program in the high schools, coor- dinated a class of Lubbock High students to familiarize them with computers. He explains the mechan- isms of the computer copier to Er- nest Gonzales, Margie Dunagan, Da- vid Liddell, and Roger Castillo.

With cattle feeding becoming a major industry in the Lub- bock area, students, Karen Cooper, Carolyn Baker, Rosalie Garcia, and David Hicks observe the operations at a Lub- bock feed lot. City Makes Bid For World Markets Our surroundings vitalize and characterize our growth and development. Located in the center of the vast South Plains of West Texas, Lubbock is a great place for young peo- ple to live. They learn responsibility, self-respect, and appreciation in these open spaces where cattle and crop raising compete with the world's great markets. Educational opportunities excel in Lubbock's pub- lic schools: Tech University and Lubbock Christian College beckon to graduates, and three business colleges promise training for entry into the working world. In their free time students often took advantage of the plains surrounding the metropolis. Kim Higgins, Mary Couch, Tommy Bartley, and Julia Jennings found riding to be an enjoyable pastime. Because of the large commercial outlets and formation of many new industries, students who do not continue their formal education find oppor- tunities in specialized jobs after graduation. Churches can be observed in every neighborhood, young people's political organizations hold thought- ful meetings, civic clubs honor youthful high schoolersg local police and city authorities give needed counsel, and active parent-teacher organi- zations make for pleasant home-school relation- ships. Yes, Lubbock takes care of its own and is a great place for young people to live.

Many nationally-known celebrities performed in Lubbock throughout the year, including Johnny Carson, Steppin Wolf, Johnny Rivers, Iron Butter- fly and Grass Roots. Ralph Nader, instead of providing the usual enter- tainment, spoke on hazards, frauds and weak- nesses found in many of today's products. During Nlr. Nader's visit Johnny Whited and Susan Griffin were among high school and col- lege students who met crusading Mr. Nader. Signs Of 70 Reveal Season Of Change Construction of the new medical facilities repre- sented the changing times and influenced the lives of students of the 7O's. Patty Savage, Gwen McDear- mon, and Mary Ann Mar- tinez were constantly con- fronted with this determin- ing factor.
