Foreword There is nothing particularly special about being under twenty: the majority of the earth's population today falls into that category. Teenagers here, as well as everywhere else, are searching to find a way in which they can adapt to a rapidly progressing civilization. Interests in mankind and his destination have leaped over the previously set boundaries. ln an ever-changing time, words such as automation, communication, satellites, nuclear power, data processing, antibiotics, organ transplants, computer music, and the search for the cause and cure of cancer have become commonplace in the vocabu- laries of students. Sights such as the crowning of the prince, state funerals, and even a man walking on the moon have filled our eyes and minds with wonder. ln this decade things really moved. Change is all about us. ln this school we will end the decade of the sixties. As we move into the seventies, the earth still rumbles under our feet. Today, we stand on this side of yesterday.

With cattle feeding becoming a major industry in the Lub- bock area, students, Karen Cooper, Carolyn Baker, Rosalie Garcia, and David Hicks observe the operations at a Lub- bock feed lot. City Makes Bid For World Markets Our surroundings vitalize and characterize our growth and development. Located in the center of the vast South Plains of West Texas, Lubbock is a great place for young peo- ple to live. They learn responsibility, self-respect, and appreciation in these open spaces where cattle and crop raising compete with the world's great markets. Educational opportunities excel in Lubbock's pub- lic schools: Tech University and Lubbock Christian College beckon to graduates, and three business colleges promise training for entry into the working world. In their free time students often took advantage of the plains surrounding the metropolis. Kim Higgins, Mary Couch, Tommy Bartley, and Julia Jennings found riding to be an enjoyable pastime. Because of the large commercial outlets and formation of many new industries, students who do not continue their formal education find oppor- tunities in specialized jobs after graduation. Churches can be observed in every neighborhood, young people's political organizations hold thought- ful meetings, civic clubs honor youthful high schoolersg local police and city authorities give needed counsel, and active parent-teacher organi- zations make for pleasant home-school relation- ships. Yes, Lubbock takes care of its own and is a great place for young people to live.
