Fans prepare to embark on this year's lone out-of-town basketball trlp to Plainview. Approximately 56 students attended the game. Winter . Christmas Season Provides Opportunities for lVlerrimer1t Christmas cheer flavoring the atmosphere at Lubbock High enriched the cold winter season. December was a busy month as stu- dents sought ideas and then adorned their homeroom doors to compete in the Student Council's annual Christmas door decorations contest. The plays classes combined to pre- pare the annual Christmas assembly. Several school-sponsored trips during the season took minds momentarily from thoughts of holidays and exams. One of these was to an out-of-town game in Plainview. Westerner Wcmrlcl and Wester'ner workers journeyed to the yearly Texas High School Press Associa- tion meet in Denton December 4-6, to dis- cuss newspaper and yearbook techniques and elect new state officers. Winter . . Multitude of Events Undaunted by Weather During the winter months, LHS students participated in varied activities. The band elected its traditional sweetheart, and home- making girls presented a style show. ln the cafeteria two new bookshelves were added to take the place of sagging tables. Seniors planned and performed in their yearly class assembly, which featured a western medicine wagon. Allow right, as Chris Merrit presents her with a bouquet of roses, the 1958-59 hand sweetheart, Nita Kirkpatrick. beams with happy surprise. Tam Bannister, an attendant, and Paul Nelson. Nita's escort, look on. One of the big events on the homemaking calendar this year was the .lanuary style show. Working on stage props, here are: sitting, Wyvonne Speck and Anita Paeeg middle row, Cinalou Hohnes, Shirley Mile, Susan Hobbs, and Lenne Whorton, top row, Ella Arendt, Susie Perkins, Nancy Gaines, Ann Wilhite, and Janelle Scott. 'iDr. Phideaux Shagnasky and his wonderful miracle drug, Elixir, made only of the purest hydrogen and oxygen, dominated the senior assembly Jan. 15. Here Carolyn Zachary, Ellen Hendrix, and ,lean Newsom, accompanied by Hank Hunt, entertain the D0c's iiCl1Sl0l1161'S.H New hookshelves installed in the cafeteria this fall sag under the Weight of students' books, as Shurlene Thorne, David Atkin- son, Michal Gentry, and Janelle Scott deposit, their burdens.
