Dear Westerners, . Here is your 1955 WESTERNER, the thirty-fourth volume of the Lubbock Senior High School yearbook. We, the editors of this edition, with our staff workers, have tried to record this year's great moments, both in work and in play. Helping us has been our good friend Wes-Nur, the Westerner pixie who sees all and knows all in Westernerland. His mother was Westerner Spirit, his father, the Courage of the Pioneers. This year marks another milestone in the great history of education in our city. Since 1892 senior high school students havesmet in one body. In September, 1955, two senior high schools, Tom S. Lubbock and Monterey will open their doors to approximately 2,900 students. This year has indeed been one of big round-upsv: the largest enrollment in history, more than 2200, the first homecoming, which attracted hundreds of graduates from the classes of 1909 through 1954, the largest classes ever, and at faculty of 95. In athletic events the boys of Lubbock Senior High have tried to do their best, not only in winning, but in living up to our motto, Sportsmanship, then Victory. In the classrooms students have fulfilled the purpose of coming to school-to learnt In club meetings and in the Student Coun- cil the democratic principles 'on which our country was founded have been practiced. In all contests students have given extra time to make the name of Lubbock Senior High School known throughout the state. Truly, this yearkhas been the Big Round-Upf, , We, the editors, would like to give our special thanks to all those who have worked to make this yearbook possible. Onlyiwe can .know the time, effort, and sacrifices that this yearbook has cost the staff members.
