Students, new and old, found many opportunities and experiences awaiting them. First on the list was registration and buying books and supplies. The razing of the old print shop brought out the students and faculty alike. l. O. Bell served lunch outside for all who worked. Rivalry Day, for the first time, was less than entirely successful, cold weather being the villain, causing a lack of participation. The few brave who ventured out, participated in football, volleyball, and basketball. The icy mud hole was quickly forgot- ten. The success of the talent show more than made up for Rivalry Day. The variety and quality of entertain- ment was nothing short of outstand- ing and was enjoyed by all who at- tended. Such experiences provided stu- dents with many opportunities to get acquainted and to learn to express themselves. 15th Annual Lectureship Great Books of the Bible The first evening of the lecture- ship lim Mclnteer presented a lec- ture on the great book of Mark. Dr. F. W. Mattox delivered the welcom- ing address. Chairman of the eve- ning was Nat Cooper. Each day a se- ries of fourteen lectures were pres- ented for three days. Speakers as well as other partici- pants came from many miles for the event. The evening lectures were presented by Lewis Hale, from Oklahoma City, Dr. Thomas H. Hol- land, from Henderson, Tennessee, Dr. lack P. Lewis, from Memphis, Tennessee, Avon Malone, from Abi- lene, and lim Bill Mclnteer, from Nashville. Various afternoon lectures were brought by evangelists from area congregations. Classes for women were held by outstanding women of the area. Si!-WIS .MS lllllll .IH 3 13 ,Q if V ,if . v hill. LCC's first Homecoming was held in 1962 and the Homecoming Queen that year was Carolyn Gra- ham. Carolyn, now Mrs. Fred Kolpin, reigned as 1972 Coming Home Queen. The ceremonies began when the attendants, dressed in southern-bell-styled outfits, were driven around the fieldhouse in early model cars. Mrs. Gail jones was crowned by lanie Thomas, 1971 Homecoming Queen. Attending her were senior Nadine Deresin, junior Barbara Sparks, sophomore Ramona Thomas, and freshman Annette Cox. Each year the chorus is actively spreading LCC to Lubbock and throughout the South. The first tour of the year saw the chorus in South Texas, San Antonio, Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Galveston, with stops in between. Short weekend trips cov- ered the West Texas and eastern N. Mexico area. During the Spring va- cation Meistersingers toured the Old South and attended the Chris- tian College Festival in Tennessee. Each tour seems to be more en- joyable and enriching to the lives of each member and the chorus as a whole. For the first time the chorus lost members of four year standing as college graduates. Music Masters is the only organi- zation of its kind on campus. It is a selected organization of music-lov- ing students. Each year the club raises money strictly for the music department to enable the depart- ment to make additions or improve- ments in various areas. The club has two productions each semester. Jamboree resembles a musical va- riety show. It is produced and pres- ented entirely by members of the club. The show is of professional quality and draws an audience of over a thousand. Master Follies is the spring prod- uction. This is a competition per- formance of each men and women's social club. It is usually presented the weekend of high school day. ole XM Right B Lee R Cole, B. Tate, D. Hutton, R. Young, D. Allen, F. Bailey, P. Byrum, T. Spoonts, S. Hoover, D. Griffin, P. Shaw, C. LOA is the meeting of needs and the sharing of love, the motiva- tion for commitment and an outlet for involvement. Life is a little more meaningful once you get involved. This belief adds height to our aspiration and depth to our purposes. The club enjoyed a year of work- ing banquets with our brother club, Kyodai, as well as the individual service projects. We would like to express special gratitude to our sponsors, Mrs. Charles Valentine and Mrs. Ricky Harman, for their willing- ness and love of those whom they guide. 132 S. Sucsy, Beau E. jenkins, Fr. The main service project for the year was making Bible class materials to send to the Philippines. Money was col- lected each week to buy Bibles for the work behind the lron Curtain. Kappa worked very hard in intra- murals winning volleyball, basketball and softball. Master Follies was an- other big highlight for Kappa, win- ning first place with From West to East, a series of American folklore. Kappa was presented the golden cup of Knowledge as the girl's club with the highest grade point. Kappa would like to thank Alpha Chi Delta for all the brotherly love shown throughout the year in par- ties and devotionals on Wednesday night. Kappa would like to give our he- artfelt gratitude to our sponsors the Bostics and the Alleys. Mrs. Bostic has been one of Kappa's sponsors for a long time. Through vari- ous projects, the club attempted to bring its members closer to- gether and to be of service to Lubbock Christian College. Dur- ing Pledge Week of the first se- mester, AEX helped raise money for the Nigerian Fund. AEX also helped distribute information for Dr. Pruitt during his campaign. For the LCC associates, the club made tote bags to sell at their gift fair. Through work sessions, parties with their brother club, and working together on Master Fol- lies, AEX learned the true mean- ing of the club scripture, A friend loveth at all times, Psalms 'l7:'l7. An annual spring banquet with Tomo Dachi ended a great year. The banquet was held at the Hay- loft Dinner Theatre and Dan Sheets was announced as the beau. Thus another fulfilling and wonderful year ended for Alpha Epsilon Chi. D. Sheets, Beau E. Rogers, Spon. P. Shurbet, Pres. D. Taylor, 1st ia Pres. C. Thut, 2nd V Pres. l. Baldridge, Sec. M. Wheeler Theta Rho The members of Theta Rho are the Daughters of Ruth, and as their scripture, Ruth 1:16-17 states, they have pledged themselves to be more like Ruth. Togetherness, both spiritual and physical, was their main objective throughout the year. The over-all project for Theta Rho for the year was the Lubbock State School where they visited with one cottage of girls once a week and had a party for the girls once a month. Although pledging was hard on pledges and masters alike, it did serve to draw everyone closer to- gether. Initiation and parties were a fun part of the activities. Money- making activities were always abun- dant since the money never was. Bake sales, shoe shines, selling key chains, and the Easter egg sale were among the projects. The second semester was high- lighted by Master Follies and the Spring Banquet. Chim-Chim- Cheree won the honor of third place, and a happier club couldn't be found anywhere. With the warmth of spring came the Spring Banquet, which was held this year at the Hayloft Dinner Theatre. A new project started by all the clubs was to leave a gift to the school each year. Theta Rho, along with several other clubs, pledged their help in purchasing a Blind Reader. It has been a good year for Theta Rho. The friendships made will last through a lifetime, and the spiritual closeness will be something to cher- ish always. Metah Moe The words Metah Moe stand for hearts together. Each year the Moes strive to make this a reality within the club, with other clubs, but most of all with God. This is shown in the club song, Nearer Still Nearer, and also in the club scripture, Lamentations 3:41, Let us lift up our hearts with our hands unto God in the Heavens. The Metah Moe's annual winter banquet was held in December. At this time Rusty Ladd was named 1971-72 Chief of the Meta Moe tribe. By participating in intramurals, having parties, and devotionals, by working on club projects and Mas- ter Follies, Metah Moe has tried to achieve unity by putting their hearts together. L. Woltman rg Su b-T-l 6 The saying is old but true, that the friends one makes in college are those he'Il keep for life. At L.C.C., social clubs are responsible for many lasting friendships. It is inter- esting to see so many people from different sections of the country and from varied backgrounds bind together into closely knit groups. Sub-T-16 is such a group. The year's events brought Subbers their share of victories as well as their share of defeats. Win or lose, they learned to work together and have fun to- gether. john ,King and Dick Laird served as sponsors, and in November, Linda Gaither was named club sweetheart. 1972 marked the end of four years of service for four Subbers. Sub-T-'I6 salutes our seniors - Cary, Dangle, Reagan, and Howard - and dedi- cates this page and this year to them. 139 Tomo Dachi Tomo Dachi played a more active role in campus affairs this year than ever before in the club's six year history. An outstanding group of pledges helped the club tremen- dously in intramurals and social ac- tivities, as is seen by the club's high finishes in intramurals and Master Follies. In intramurals, TD won the spring round of football, tied for first in basketball, was second in softball, third in the track meet, and finished second in overall club in- tramural standings. Club members enjoyed several activities jointly with their sister club, Alpha Epsilon Chi, and closed out the social year with a banquet at the Hayloft, at which Kathleen Thompson was an- nounced as the 1972 club sweet- heart. Tomo Dachi is japanese for Brotherhood of Friends. This year the members of the club grew closer to God and each other through their association together. 140 K. Thompson ' ilfsf . Well, the name in japanese means brotherhood, and it is one of the five men's social clubs at Lubbock Christian College. But in actuality to say this would limit what Kyodai really means. Try- ing to pinpoint all the things the club is to our members is impossi- ble, but here are a few things that we all recognize as being a funda- mental part of our association. Kyo- dai is: 'l. the love we have for each other as brothers in Christ, 2. the in- terest we have in making L.C.C. a great college, 3. the spirit of Chris- tian fellowship and unity with our sister club Lambda Omega Alpha, 4. the enjoyment we have working to- gether whether it be in service pro- jects or in athletic endeavors, and 5. it is the realization that within this club will come friendships that will last for a life time, there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother, Proverbs 18:24. Kyodai would like to thank the other men's clubs, Sub-T-16, Alpha Chi Delta, Tomo Dachi, Koinonia, Aggies, and the women social clubs, Lambda Omega Alpha, AEX, Kappa Phi Kappa, C.D.'s, Theta Rho, Metah Moe, and Ko jo Kai, for helping build Lubbock Christian College and striving to place Christ first here on our campus. 142 M. Other players that will not return are john Epperson, Carl Love and jerry Webb. john Copeland, from Melrose, New Mexico, had been a starter for four years. He leads the team in assists and has been one of the most consistent players over the past four years. john is in charge of running the team while on the court. john Epperson is leaving the team to go to Dental school. johnny is from Pampa. ln his three years on the team john has proven to be the best defensive guard around. Al- though he was often given the job of breaking a press he did a good job. He might not have scored as ef- fectively as some players would like due to his effectiveness on defense but he did score two very important points against Odessa College when he was a freshman to win the game and the WjCAC conference title. Gary Keener finished out this sea- son and seven previous ones on the LCC court. After playing four years for LCHS, Gary joined the Chaps. Gary has played the role of sixth man most of his time here. Al- though not a glamorous role he did have a very important one - reliev- ing the starters and sparking the team. Carl Love played at LCC while it was a junior College. After serving a hitch in the Marines he returned to the Chaps for one more year of eli- gibility. Carl's favorite spot on the floor was the corner. More than once during the season he came off the bench to score in double fig- ures. jerry Webb was a transfer player from ACC. In his three semesters at LCC this 6'5 forward aided the Chaps by giving them some re- bounding strength. Although he of- ten got in foul trouble he never gave anyone an easy shot or re- bound. They were from wonder- ful Christian families. They were popular with students and faculty, took their studies seri- ously, and represented well the ideals for which L.C.C. stands. We all loved them dearly. EI Explorador Staff Editor ....... Photographers Staff .... Sponsor ..... From the flat prairie rise buildings of brick, intermingled with wooden reminders of. years before. New concrete sidewalks are tracing smooth pathways to modern classrooms equipped with conditioned air and seats designed for the very best of learning. The learners, like the tumbleweeds, are wandering in a careless way to their specific destinations. Somewhere among them are the ghosts of those who once walked in the ' mud to airy classrooms with inflexible seats of learning. The contemporary scholars do not see the ghosts, but keep pace with as with old friends. And the wind echoes the laughter of . the pioneers, mingling it with theological discussions and campus gossip. lt is a warm sound, a sound of fifteen years of companionship. Beth Smith
