Those words were written in a past issue of the Maroon and help explain how buildings illustrate changing times on the Loyola cam- pus. Only memories, pictures and printed words remain of land- marks from Loyola ' s past. St. Charles Avenue is registered as ai Historic Landmark and Loyola Uni? versity shares in the long and famous history of The avenue . Three private residences on Marquette Place were purchased in 1925 from the New Orleans Province to be used as dormitories especially for athletes. Beginning with the building nearest the campus, they were named the Texas, the Utah and the Oklahoma. The Texas was the original .Jesuit residence. Later it was used for offices and classrooms and was called Biever Hall. It was razed in 1968. The Reserve Officers Training Corps. (ROTO program was established at Lovola in 1947. In 19,55 the ROTC moved on to Loyola ' s campus, and six one-story army surplus build- ings were added to the campus to provide the extra space needed for returning war veterans. 10
