........ ... ..... ....... .... a j cw MM aatf awowfc Wittgi sw ' O t M ffai Loyola has been fortunate to have at its helm, during the past four years of expansion, a man whose ability and personality have served as guide and stimulus to the University. Such a man is our President, the Very Reverend Thomas J. Shields, S.J. To the students Father Shields is the ideal president. Newcomers to the campus soon learn that he is as likely to be observed talking to a group of students as to be seen seated in his office interviewing dis- tinguished visitors. REV. A. WILLIAM CRANDELL, S.J. Dean, College of Arts and Sciences Dean ol Faculties COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCE REV. LESTER F. X. GUTREL. SJ. Dean of Men Assistant Dean, College of Arts and Sciences Father Crandell Greets French Naval Officers Because of the genial and efficient manner in which he conducts his office, Father A. William Crandell, S.J., has exerted a profound influence on both students and faculty. Besides being Dean of Faculties, Father Crandell also serves as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, governing it with marked success. His readiness to see the students at all times and to listen to their problems make him one of the most popular men of the faculty. Father Lester F. X. Guterl, S.J., A.B., A.M., the Dean of Men, first came to Loyola in 1943. In his office, you will always find stu- dents wanting to know the why of Uni- versity regulations. This may call for hold- ing a place in a waiting line, but any student will find here a place to voice his opinion. Whether the reply be in the affirmative or negative, it is always accompanied with a grin. Some advice lor .Student leaders
