The Evergreen Campus was resplendent with signs of new growth and development throughout the year. Many simple but important projects were completed in an attempt to enhance the beauty of Loyola’s grounds. The main entrance to the College was expanded, and a new traffic light was installed to facilitate student crossings at the Charles Street entrance. Other improvements included laying of new drainage pipes, the construction of a new stor- age building for the Physical Plant, and the dredg- ing of the library pond. The most important and ambitious construction project of the last ten years was begun this year. Fr. Sellinger and several other dignitaries participated in ground breaking ceremonies for the new De- Chiaro Student Center, which is scheduled for com- pletion by the spring of 1 984. The new Center will be the largest and most expensive structure ever on Loyola’s acerage. Construction 17
