Dedication The Class of 1975 would like to dedicate its efforts to a great man:. Fr. Eugene Ahern He came to Loyola in 1971, assuming the roles of Campus Ministries coordinator and Theology faculty member. In 1973, he took over the duties of counselor and chaplain of the Evening and Graduate divisions. While at Loyola, he did everything possible for the stu- dents, even if it meant criticizing them through his let- ters in the campus newspaper. Eugene Ahern was a father to anyone coming to him as a son or daughter. His assistance and guidance were there for the asking. He was always willing to lis- ten, yet he was not a man who would only sit and wait for someone to approach him. An outgoing man, he was always involved with the students. He was a man among us, always asking for concern beyond our- selves. In his sermons he has asked, “Just how far do we want to get involved? Often just far enough to say we ' re interested, but not far enough to let our interest change our lives. He was the personification of concern. Fr. Ahern has greatly influenced the Loyola College Community; an influence that should not end with his death. His work is not to be forgotten, not merely to be remembered, but to be carried on. How far do we want to go in? What a shameful answer . . . ' Just far enough to say I ' ve been there ' . I ' ve not reached the finishing line— always more to come— suffering and joy, deeper faith, stronger commitment, I look ahead and not to the past. — Fr. Ahern ! 5
