Ignatius, however, saw the true place of these disciplines in the scheme of education. A man must not only know the facts of history and experience the beauties of literature, he must train his mind to the precision and method of mathematics and science. In Algebra, the student begins to think without the aid of measuring stick and multiplication table as he progresses through the intricacies of algebraic fore rnulae and equations. Geometry presents a challenge - a challenge to think logically. Upon the meager foundation of a few fundamental definitions and axioms, the student him- self builds a whole new world of logic constructed of theorems and corollaries, proofs and conclusions. dem-M445 LAWS OF Tl'fl: TRIANGLE are brought to b by Geometry students foe Della Maria ar Iohn Crilly to solve the problem COIWPLEX EQUATIOHS becoriie easy for Alge bra student Torn Prucher ar: Mr Cor.r.ellj.' shown: him the heart of the problem, S PHYSICAL SCIENCES The other things on the face ot the earth are created for man . . . hence, man is to make use of them . . . in the attainment of his end . . . This he does through the physical sciences. Today's gloritication of science to the neglect and almost exclusion ot God is a menace to those not well-grounded in the proper Christian attitude. THE GRAD PREP The dedication to lgnatius Loyola and the attempt to assimilate his spirit through prayer and work stimulated the N356 Grad Prep staff to strive for excellence in commemorating the four hundredth an- niversary of Ignatius' death. The fine blnding of a cloth cover, a four color picture for the dedication page, and color employed on the dividing pages were part of the new look born of this stimulus. Forced to think through their notion of the Loyola man, the staff rediscovered the educational ideals of Loyola in all the phases of school activity. Somewhat unique among activities in its demand for careful, long range planning in thought and organization, The Grad Prep provided an experience for staff members which will assist them in their future careers. With the breaking of around on Iuly 31, 1956, Loyola Academy's dream of more than two decades will be realized. Since 1930 the con- struction ofa new and larger Acade- my has been only a hopeful idea in the mind of our lesuit administrators. Now, however, this idea has matc- rialitod and the final plans are be- ina completed. To be erected on a twenty-five acre site at Eden Expressway and Lake Avenue in VVilmette, the new buildings will accommodate 1503 students and provide room for exe pansQon. Larger, more adequate la- boratories will be available for physics and chemistry instruction, Biology, typing, and mechanical drawing will be added to the curri- culum. Expansion of athletic facilities will increase Loyola's present sports pro- aram. A gymnasium seating 2500 people, two football fields, four soft- ball diamonds, a baseball diamond, outdoor basketball courts, handball courts, a track, and a proposed swimming pool will be the scene of Rambler sports activities in the not too distant future. A student chapel, a little theater. a large cafeteria, a faculty resi- dence, and offices for extracurricular activities will also be built on the new campus, AERIAL VIEW OF THE NEW ACADEMY taken from the west. Although Loyola Academy will leave some of its fondest memories on the lake shore campus, we are sure that the spirit and enthusiasm of Loyola will continue to grow in the expanded facilities of the new location.
